Hi,
I have an 03 350Z Touring w/ Navi
Upon start-up the screen comes on and displays the "NISSAN" name and a message in a yellow banner at the bottom reads "Disc Error".
When you go into the menu the "Navigation" bar is not lighted up.
The system recognizes when there is no CD in the DVD player.
I have looked at the disc and it look flawless and it works in my friend's 05 350Z.
Any ideas on what may be wrong?

If it turns out to be a faulty DVD drive can I install one from another Nissan/Infiniti vehicle like from a Pathfinder, QX45, Armada etc...

before you go crazy, i had the same problem. I unpluged the navi dvd drive from behind the seat and pluged it back in and it works fine. It might not work for you but give it a shot.

Geeze it's a toughy to get at the back of the DVD player!
I unplugged a white plug a grey plug and then a small grey plug from the back and started the car.
Nothing came on the screen and then I plugged everything back in and the screen came on to the "NISSAN" page and a yellow border at the bottom displayed a "Waiting" message for about 10mins. So I ejected the disc and put it back in and after the "Waiting" message appeared for 30 secs the "Disc Error" message came on.
Dammit!!

Oooooo
Update: I got a call from the dealer about the Navi and axle clicking issues.
The axles are getting done at $168 and the Navi is another issue
Since the extended warranty is over as of.... ready?.....ready for it.....
.....it expired yesterday
If this was last week I would have been fine!
I'm off to ebay now

Any specific cleaner? I tried my friend's generic cleaning CD and as soon as I put it in "Disc Error" came up (which is to be expected).
How do they work? Do you just get any cleaning CD you want or does it have to be DVD specific? What do you do after you put the CD in? Wait?
Thanx

This is the drive cleaner I was talking about. It actually has a brush on the bottom:

It's like $13.
