Default Door speaker mounting

I just completed updating the door speakers in a non-bose system and made some observations that have inticed me to consider making an adapter that would provide for mounting the speakers to the door trim.

-An adapter is required if you mount to the door or the trim panel.
-Mounted to the trim the sound is directed out of the door without reflecting between the door and trim panel which should provide increased efficency and reduced distortion.
-Speaker could be centered within grill opening.
-Increase space to clear window glass.

Any comments for or against greatly appreciated.

1 What material would you use, 2 how thick would the spacer be, and 3 could you make an angled spacer that will allow speakers with greater depth to clear the window?

Id recommend the door speaker pods. I just finished installing mine i created and it is a night and day difference compaired to the speaker behind the door panel/grill. Check out my thread on the my door pods.

Just remember if you keep it behind the Oem grill in the door, the grill only has half the holes punched out so youd have to drill each hole out.

Have a close look at those speaker grills before you insist on mounting the speakers in the very center of the "grill". As you can see from this picture of my '05 the grill holes are not all cut out. The mid-bass/mid-range frequencies aren't affected much if any by these holes but a tweeter would be.

If you want to improve the sound of the door speakers I would recommend you purchase a set of door pods from wickedcas.com. These pods mount on the door over the speaker grille. Not only do they give a really exotic and custom look to your vehicle, they also redirect the speaker giving a more natural clearer sound.Just my 2c.
