Help an old man out
I want to keep my non-bose head unit
I have 4 Infiniti Kapa speakers
I need an Amp that will power the speakers and a sub
I need a Sub and I want it in the stock location
So I need an Amp and a sub. I don't need lot's of boom just enough to sound decent.
What do I all need? What are your recommendations. I'm hoping to stay under $600 if possible

I don't have any advice for you, but I do have a question.
I have the non-bose unit that I also want to keep, but I wanted to change out the speakers and maybe add an amp too, so I'm in almost the same situation as you are.
Question: Did adding the Infinity speakers improve the sound relative to the stock (non-bose) speakers? If so, was the improvement significant enough that you would say that it justified the cost?
Thanks,
Kyle

get a used xtant amp from ebay and a new image dynamics 10" sub for stock sub location.
image dynamics idq10 is cheap but very good for the price.... xtant is awesome but a little pricey new

Here's what you'll need:
From the headunit: A line to RCA converter ($10-15 at Radio Shack) to convert the signal from the headunit to a usable RCA signal to send to amp.
From converter: Depends on the type of amp, but the converters I've seen only convert 2 channels to RCA (FL and FR). If you choose a 5 channel amp, most have 5 channels of input (FR, FL, RR, RL, & sub). You may have to use a Y-adapter to split your FL & FR RCA signal from the headunit to FR, FL, RR, RL, and sub on the amp.
Amp: You can go with a single 5 channel amp (I'm unsing an MTX 4405 that sounds GREAT!) or you can go with 2 amos (one for the speakers and another for the sub). it's up to you, but it sounds like from your description of what type of sound you want, I would suggest a good 5 channel (Alpine, MTX, XTANT, are all great). IMO you shouldn't have to spend more than $250-350 for the amp. Check out eBay and audio discount sites on the web.
Sub: I agree with the IMage Dynamics suggestion. That's what I'm using and its very musical. Here's where more questions need to be answered. If you go with ID or other sub that requires a selaed enclosure, then someone has to build that for you and install it (shop around, my bill for install of all speakers, amps, wiring, dynamat, custom enclosure cost me $750 total). Some people have used the stock location for a free-air sub but the sound quality has been lack-luster.
Best thing to do is do an extensive search on this. Many Z owners put in a great deal of time researching all these questions and have moved forward with their installs. See if you can get some inspiration from them...
Hope this helps, Enjoy...

OK more help needed. I've decided I don't need the thump yet.
What 5 channel Amp would you recommend to run my 4 Infiniti Kappas? Not over 400 bones.
I'm saying 5 channel because I want the option later on to add a sub.

Thought I'd throw out my .02...
No need for a 5 channel amp. Get a nice 4 channel amp and use the front channels for the front speakers and save the other two channels to bridge for a sub later on. Deck power will be more than enough to power your new Infinitys in the rear. The factory rears are high resistance so they are much quieter than the fronts. If you put new speakers back there AND put an amp to them - WOW, they will be way too loud unless you turn the gain all the way down, negating the amp's power anyway.
JL makes a nice 4 channel amp btw.

Get a decent 4-channel amp that has line-level inputs (so you wont need a line-level converter at $50)and sub control (make sure it has a crossover in it). I would look at the Jl 300/4 amp. Stay away from mainstream names like Sony, pioneer and JBL - they are pretty much low end stuff. For the Sub, spend about $120 on a JL10w0 - very efficient and forgiving.
You will be running the front two channels of the amp to the front speakers and the rear two will be bridged (to mono) for the sub. The rear speakers will be run off of the stock head unit.
I am not sure if the JL10w0 has it, I forget, but try and get an amp that has a remote bas control ****.

Well too late for that. This is my setup. 4 infinity kappa speakers, image dynamics idq10 and a MTX thunder 4405 Amp. The remote turn on I can run to the antenna if there is none on the HU. but I still need the line out and the line to RCA converter (which I've seen for under 10bux).

seem like my setup is pretty close to what you have. Few question.
What did you do for sub input?
based on the answer for the sub, how many channel did you set the amp to? (2,4,5)??
Also what did you set your crossovers to be, FR or HP? The speakers I got has crossovers on them already.
