Default Another Non-Z install for you guys :) IS350

alright, just got this car done, a new 06 is350. this is my first attempt at this car so it took a little longer but it turned out pretty good i might say

goals:

1. great sound quality with the stock nav headunit retained (found that the stock system does NOT do much eqing)

2. completely stealth with some show factor

so lets get started.

First the headunit and amp of the stock system is plugged into the inputs of an audiocontrol LC8, the signals are summed and provide the RCA signals for the amps.

Front stage: a set of DLS ultimate UR36i 3 way component set is used. the 6.5" midbass is sealed in the stock lower door location, and tiny kick panels are fabricated housing the midrange and tweet, it clears the foot brake with ease and provide a very nice and high stage with very very solid center image:

the rear stock components are left stock so lets move ont o the trunk

like i said, stealth is the key, here is what hte trunk looks like when opened, the KINK in the carpet is NOT from the system, its from being folded int he backseat for four days normally the carpet would lay completley flat...

pull off the carpet you see a vinyl fake floor, with vinyl cover in the back and a grill mesh on the front hmm why the strange looking grille?

with all the covers off, the system is revealed.

in the back, two alpine amps supplied by the car customer flank a set of DLS ultimate crossovers. and upfront, a quartet of Elemental Designs EU700 6.5" subs reside in a fiberglass spare tire well enclosure, both are trimmed in sude

the reason why the EU 700s are chose is becuase the well of the IS is pretty shallow and features a big center crossob brace this foursome certainly puts out enough bass to shake the rear view mirror with authority!

now some behind the scene photos:

fake floor off showing everyhting, notice how tight everyhting is, the LC8 is secured against the back trunk wall int he well lol

stock 8" was removed from the rear deck to get more bass into the cabin:

here are the front stage midbass install, first a cup was made, then put into the door, new speaker wires are run into the door, and then the entire door was sealed and dampened

here the spare tire well box in construction, you will see what i mean by irregularly shapped and not very deep:

If you retain the Nav, is it possible to install a single din flip out monitor where the audio controls are?

Very nice, very clean install. Did four EU-700's provide enough bass? I have two in the Z, and the bass is far from loud. I would imagine that the subs being far back in the trunk, and having to travel through the seats, the bass would be a little lacking in an IS.

See, now Im confused because dont the 4 channel alpines have different power outputs on their channels, so they cant really be bridged? I want to use an alpine mrv for my front stage (only need 2 channels @ 100w rms), but it looks like once you bridge them the 1/2 channels put out different power than the 3/4 channels. Will this still work?

hmm i see hwat you mean by the specs, but when bridged it, right and left was compeltely balanced...not a problem at all, true center image...hmmm bizarre

and this list from alpine itself doesnt seem to make any sense..

well, initially, i bought the EU's to be installed in the stock rear speaker location and after reading bad reviews about installing subs in the stock rear speaker location, I decided to make a box with .33 cu ft. i faced the box toward the rear and the EU's provides a decent amout of bass but it didnt seem like it was as good as all the hype it was getting.

.33 cub feet each or .33 cub feet total?

and how many watts did you throw at them?

This thread seems to say that if you bridge the 1/2 channels you still only get 75w rms, but the 3/4 gives you 300w rms - which should have an effect... Now Im really confused

yeah its very strange...but i can honestly tell you when its bridged, and gains set even, its exactly balanced with a solid center image...weird... i will check it again when ew tune the car further in a week or so
