Default AVIC Z-1 question

Just read a quick review of it where it said that the internal HD doesnt allow you to rip cds that you burned yourself. Heck having used Itunes the last 4 years, I dont know that I have any CDS I *havent* burned myself.

Is this really the case? Seems like a really stupid limitation of what otherwise is a great idea.

You have to make an actual music cd, you cant store cd that contain mp3's. I make audio cd's using cdr's and copy them to the Z1. It will also read DVD-r's. It is an annoying extra step, but Im sure they had to set it up this way to avoid copyright laws. It is ashame you cant record XM content to the hdd like I can with my MyFi.

One follow up Q - what is the "rip speed" on the Z1? Do you have to listen to the cd in realtime to rip it or is there some sort of increased speed?

you cannot rip mp3s but you can rip burned cds containing normal music files, i dont know the numerical burn speed but i can say a 15 track cd will probably take a decent 10 mins...if you choose to listen to the CD< yes you have to listen to it one after another (though no in real time since it burns much faster) until the burning stops, but yuo can also listen to wahts already in your HD or the radio or any other source while it burns.

Oh thats it? 10 minutes isnt too bad I just didnt want to sit there for 45-50 minutes while a CD ripped in real time. Thanks.
