Default HU sometimes reads discs and sometimes doesn't. Help

I recently installed a Kenwood DDX-7017. The sound is great but there's an issue with it. The unit sometimes doesn't eject the discs and I would have to poke at it with another cd for it to come out. Also some cd's played fine for awhile and then I would get a disc error. Is there something wrong with the unit or maybe it needs some cleaning? I've used these dvd-r's and cd-r's on my stock HU and they played fine.

sounds like a def HU. You still have warranty or was it a refurbished model?

check to make sure that the format that these discs are burned in, are supported by the unit. Just cause the hu supports CD-R's and DVD-R's doesn't mean it can always read them. depends on disc format as well.

If it is supported, it might be a defective unit. Also, this may sound stupid, but you didn't mention anything about it. Make sure you don't have a lot of smudges, fingerprints, etc on the disc surface. Same thing with scratches.
