Default Stock HU with upgraded speakers. Worth it ??

OK I did a search for this but couldn't find exactly what I needed. I have an 04 Touring with the Bose 6CD system. I want to upgrade the front and rears and maybe the sub. Can this be done? Will it sound any better ? Thanks

Yes it will sound better. Bose in cars isn't great anyway. You might want to do that mod that disables the audiopilot crap on the Bose systems too though.

Yes!

The stock Bose speakers are the worst part of the whole factory installation.

Your CD player will start skipping/not playing when it gets cold out sooner or later. Might as well get rid of the whole lousy system. For now you might just want to upgrade the speakers, but eventually the factory HU will probably **** you off.

I thought factory head units had preset EQ's to enhance the performance of the crap $0.50 speakers. Therefore wouldn't it be possible for aftermarket speakers to sound worse because the frequency responses of the two speakers are different? Also, I believe that stock speakers are much more efficient than aftermarket speakers, especially if they have big complex crossovers. I have never heard a stock headunit w/ aftermarket speakers, so I am just speculating.

I had one person at a store tell me you couldn't use aftermarket speakers because the Bose system was designed specially to work with the Bose speakers. I thought he was just trying to get me to spend more money on a head unit too.

With the trouble many have had with the stock HU, I'd personally just get it out the way and go aftermarket. -2 cents-
