Hey all,

I am about to install my Alpine amp to run 1 10'' Kicker sub. I am currently running a kenwood X-990 headunit with the bose stock sysytem.

My question is where is the best place to put the Amp. My idea is to place it under the passenger seat and run the power through the kick panel, But where do I ground the AMP? do I run a ground cable directly from the battery or do I ground it somewhere on the chassis?

I plan on using 8ga wire for the Power but what gage for the ground.

I have it behind the driver seat in the cubby, in fact, got two in there and plenty of place to ground, but I got no Bose sub to worry about, just had to remove about 14 nuts to get to the metal bracket, that's somehow there eventho I have no Bose and you have to remove all the plastics as well.

Under the seat many not be ideal when it comes to rainy weather etc.

Where are you planning to put the sub? If you're gonna get something like the Zenclosure or built your own for the trunk, then you might as well remove the Bose sub and put your amp there.

I got 8 awg for power and ground, should be fine.

 

I have a zenclosure box, which is in the hatch. Since I still have the Bose system installed with an aftermarket headunit. i will just add the Sub and AMP.
But where did you run the ground? From the battery compartment or to the Chassis.

 

For me, ground for the amps is bolted to a screw in the cubby, you will see it once you look in there, if I remembered correctly you don't even need to drill, just put a bolt and a nut in the hole and that should be fine, or, the bolt and nut was already there? I have a bad memory sometimes, but if it's not already there you can easily supply your own.
I don't even remember having to sand down an area for the ground, but if yours is painted in that area just sand it down to bare metal.
Only thing is, you should tune your amp BEFORE mounting there because the cubby is not always the easiest place to tune your amp after it's fixed in there.

I can try to take a pic for you if it helps, but since I don't drive the Z to work and it's already dark when I get home, I will try to take one tonight and see if it would come out clear.

And understand that the gas tank is mounted under that area ... and if you put a hole in it that would be a bad thing.

I mounted mine to the lower front edge where the subwoofer mounts and to the rear tab where the stock luggage cubby would have been.

lol, had to use thread rods since I got two different brands, a Kicker ZX300.1 on top and Phoenix Gold R804 below. I should have kept the brands consistant so it look better.

go with 4 gauge power wire. and your ground should be the same gauge as your power wire, so go with 4 gauge there too. i went behind my driver's seat like everyone above, and love it. with the panel snapped on, you cant even tell that theres an amp there.
