It slowly dims the screen when ever lights are turned on and when in map mode 3-d the sky goes to stars and night sky. There is also a dynamics screen available in map mode, vehicle dynamics, basically it adds another speedometer measured by GPS, with two others selectable by the user, clock, positive/negative g-force and lateral G-force using the gyro in the unit. The z1 also will allow you to change the backround images and a few other things about the display.
