Default Anyone familiar with this brand dual?

I was looking for a nice headunit and came across this brand named dual.

Does anyone have experience with this brand?

Hay man dont do it. In my experiance everything dual tends to brake on you within 3 months. I work at best buy (yeah im not to proud of it either) and dual is nothing but problems. The motor tends to burn out fairly quickly the back light dies. Honestly we had a customer bring us his car the other day his Dual head unit was turning its self on and off at random. We took the unit out tested his wires even used a new wire harness when we installed it again and it did the same thing. The only thing worse then their radios and indash though is their speakers.

The best thing you can do is pretend you have never heard of the brand before and look for something else.

IMO you get what you pay for and these Pyles and Duals are not the quality of the brands like Pioneer, Clarion, Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, or Eclipse and the like. Even if you have cheaper speakers, get the best HU you can afford.

Sadly, Dual is not a very good brand anymore. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) they were bought by Sony several years ago. Ever since then, they are not good quality pieces. Neither is Sony's car audio stuff in my opinion.

A long time ago, back in the 60's and 70's, Dual made TOP NOTCH, German-made audiophile grade turntables (record players for you younger folk). I had owned several. Solid and reliable. Back in the 60's one of their mid-line turntables would sell for $600. In the 80's they suffered due to the invention of the cassette tape and then eventually the CD drove them out. This is when Sony stepped in. This I bleieve is the simplified history of Dual........

OK, here you go......The history -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_%28brand%29

As it turns out, it wasn't Sony who bought them, but I do know that Dual used(uses) some of Sony's designs. Which would lead me to believe that Dual and Sony share the same Korean buildhouse for much of their car audio gear.

I disagree with your statement about "Sony" not offering quality. I have owned at least 2 Sony decks in the last 6 years and have yet to find a suitable replacement for the MEX5DI features. I have owned Kenwood, Alpine, Pioneer Premire, and other high quality units in the past. IF anyone can tell me of one I would certainly compare it. (Reason why I have decided to relocate this deck from my SUV into my Z). I agree that all the manufacturers have a low end department. Things you find at Wal-Mart.
I have also seen all these brands bring the stuff to the table at CES and other shows. I have not yet been influenced to find something else at this time.

Dejavu --- I owned a couple of Dual turntables in the 70's and early 80's before CDs took over. There were second only to Harmon Kardon and considered high end equipment. Still have my over 200 LP records in storage.

Today.. unfortunately they are considered poor quality.

My audio shop I use sells DUAL. I think they are a pretty good mid range priced unit. The quality of the DVD units is pretty good. I haven't seen any come back with problems. I think they sell for about $450 here. Like I said, I haven't seen any come back with problems and they are moderately priced. I say try it out. Here is a link if you want to get it for $450.
