Default Does the whole center console need to be removed for head unit replacement?

Just ordered a Kenwood DDX6019. I currently have a factory Bose / factory Nav set-up. After searching, I found the link to the center console removal how-to. Will I need to remove the whole console in order to remove the Bose and replace it with the Kenwood? Or will I be able to do so after removing just the bottom part of the console? Thanks.

Err...there's no bottom part. It is all one giant piece as you must have seen in the how-to. Are you talking about the shifter trim piece? That is just the first step. The big dash piece is next. It has to be removed to gain access to stereo screws. Center console is where the arm rest and storage area is. That does not need to be removed

Yes, I was refering to the shifter trim piece. But after going back and looking at it again, I clearly see I will need to remove the top, main part of the center dash to do the job. Not sure what I was thinking when I looked at it the first time. Nor am I sure why I called it the center console instead of the dash.

yes you need to take it all off since the headunit is screwed to the back of the console, its not as bad as you think.. take the bottom piece off, then take 4-6crews that are revealed off(i found that its alot easy or mandatory that you unbolt that white plastic box thingy) take the cubby trim piece off that will expose two more screws that u take out as well, pull the console out and unplug the meters

FYI,,be careful unplugging the AC (white box). It has a ribbon connector that is very sensitive. Also, dont forget to unplug the 3 gage cluster at the top of the center dash,,it has a short plug and I had a hard time getting my hand behind it to plug/unplug the gages. Overall, just watch each plug,,,those pins can bend very easily and a pain to fix...

Just a few tips I picked up doing my install and reading here. I hope it helps.
