I am thinking of getting rid of the Kenwood DDX-8017 that I have in the Z now. I want to get something with a better Ipod interface. What does everyone think? Stick with it? Pioneer Avic-Z1? Something else?

 

Why not wait about 45-60 days and get either the DDX8019 or wait less than 30 days and get the new DNX7100 which is a all in one with built in Navigation. Either way they both have the new High Speed Ipod control, which is just as fast as an Ipod, will let you seach the same as an Ipod, will have four lines of text, and will let you watch and control the Ipod video thru the unit. Since the new all in one will have a flash drive for the navigation, no more having to take disc in or out for the Navigation. Also forgot they will both have the ability to do Bluetooth with the Bluetooth adaptor.

What's the real difference in the two? They are almost identical it seems.

 

Besides the DDX8019 not having the built in Navigation, the DDX8019 will have a 2 year warranty, 5 volt preouts, will do DVD AUDIO but downmixes it to 2 channel stereo, has a silver color face border and you can upload your own pics and use them as wallpaper. I also forgot they both will have 2 external switches that are activated from the touchscreen. What this lets you do is activate any external acc. like neon lights, open hatch without the need for toggle switches.

 

Would you stay with Kenwood over something like the Avic-Z1?

 

i have the same complaint about my KVT-817...the ipod interface absolutely BLOWS....i mean give me the ability to see a list of songs in my playlists dammit....but after reading up on those models the DDX8019 seems like the best choice....or in my case the 819(need hide-a-way because of where i live)

 

WHAT!!!!!!! I read all about the avic-z1 it seemed like a pretty good unit whats better and why?

i'm in ur EXACT same boat, do you have the nav as well? i don't....ddx8019 here i come! is there a specific release date for this?

 

I don't have the nav. Not really worried about nav to tell you the truth. I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 in the nav compartment that works great. I really want better Ipod communication.

ddx8017 have good resell value still. hock it off on ebay and buy yourself a Z1 before the 8019 comes out.

 

The new Kenwood units will display Album cover art from the ipod--great feature.

Pioneer is comming out with the d-3 which will have the ipods click wheel in its graphics also able to do video.

The Z2 has not been updated with this feature yet--probably next year.

 

Scheduled release date for the DDX8019 is March 14.

 

Throw me an offer. I think I'm ready to sell.
