I don't think it would be worth it. If you were adding a sub I think the box would take up too much arm room and you would lose the storage. If you put it in for regular speakers I think it would mess up the sound stage.

bad idea in all aspects.
hard to make
hard to mount securely
sound is coming from your hip
likely to looks gaudy/tacky
replace the front door speakers with some new one for $75 and call it a day ... later on add a amp and a subwoofer.

I don't think everyone understood what I was thinking of. I am thinking of placing speakers between the driver & passenger seats. The speakers would be at about shoulder height.Something along the lines of a Viper or Ferrari / Lamborghini type set-up. Does that make sense??

On your home stereo setup, do you have one speaker next to your ear and some others out in the room facing your listening position? Do you think the stereo would sound better if there was a speaker by your ear? Why? You can rig a boom box with detachable speakers in your car to figure out where the speakers would sound best. Try putting one by your shoulder, where you want it. Ferrari doesn't build cars to have nice stereos. They build race cars. They may not be the best inspiration. Have a look at this and see if it makes any sense:

The goal is to put the speakers as close as possible to being equidistant from your ear to create stereo sound. Alternatively, some people like to fill their cars with amps, subs, and speakers ***** nilly wherever they will fit/look cool. I don't think they actually sound good though.
