Remote Start - 2nd Starter Wire
Anyone have any idea why there are 2 starter wires? I looked in the service manual and could only find reference to one starter wire. The Candian versions have a 2nd starter wire listed for daytime running lights, but that wire isn't shown in the USDM version.
honestly, i peronally would take it ot a good shop, alarm and remote start is osmeting i would never want anyone without experience to try out...if done improperly, it could turn out to be annoying and even dangerous..
just a heads up...
just a heads up...
I would guess that I've installed over 100 remote starts, and countless security systems. I've engineered and built my own custom electronics to make cars do what I want them to do (from all of the KPtechnologies (www.kptechnologies.com) modules to transmission controllers that use OEM steering wheel mounted A/C switches to up/down shift (http://kptechnologies.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=208)). I installed professionaly while I was in college earning a 4 year degree in the electronics field. The point I am trying to make is that I am more then qualified to install a remote start, even though that wasn't the original question at all. I have no intentions of installing a remote start on my G35, I don't drive it in the winter.
My question is simply in regards to the 2nd starter wire. Everyone knows its there, and knows it need to be hooked up, buy why? This question actually comes from a well known installers forum, http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...ID=90342&TPN=2
One guy claims that it is to a cold start switch, but that would be impossible and not needed with a fuel injected car. As I stated in my original post, there is no mention to the 2nd starter wire in the USA spec'd Nissans. However, the wire is there, and does need to be hooked up. Where does it go?

Honestly where is this going ? Are you trying to eliminate this wire ? Over 80 % of nissans have a 2nd start wire so someone has to know, try maybe a maxima or altima forum. The 2nd start wire has been present on those cars as far back as 98' if i recall. I too install and design electronics for a living ; ).
I'm not trying to eliminate it, just trying to figure out what it does.
Most cars don't have a 2nd starter wire, so why does Nissan?
People report that remote starters don't work well when its cold outside if the 2nd starter wire isn't hooked up.
I'm just curious, thats all. I came across the thread on the12volt.com and figured I would be able to answer the question since I have 10+ Nissan service manuals. I looked through them all and couldn't find any reference to the 2nd starter wire.
