Default A teaser perhaps...another drop in subbox design...your thoughts?

hey guys, i am in the middle of thinking about a drop in sub box design for the 350z and G35 Coupe thats not currently available. One that iwll be manufactuered with a partner so its precise and well made

taht is, a box that replaces the plastic floor poices in the spare tire well area, on either side.

I have yet to determine what kind of driver best serives the space but anything form dual 6.5" subss to one or two 8" or a single 10, all may work...
also, it will come with a built in grill to protect the sub.

basically, the idea here is to get bass into the car without sacrificing any room in the trunk, spare, or behidnt he seat area...and it will be a direct replacement drop in , pop the old plastic pieces out, pop this one in, put he carpet back over, and done...

any thoughts would be welcome

i am thinking the pricing will be kept to below 350 bucks loaded even with the speakers...as low as possible gonna be offering htem with Elemetnal design speakres for the most part or unloaded as well if you have another sub in mind

anyway, its just a thought for now, so any feedback will help me shape my decision in the future

It sounds good, but I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

thats a sick idea. I'd want dual 10's if that even possible. Maybe you could port it somehow.

I would definitely be one of the first people to jump on your waiting list! I was thinking of getting the same set up where I could leave the spare and have a sub or two, on the sides of the spare.

Sounds cool...I've wondered why there wasn't one prefabed avaiable to the general public...like the under strut boxes. It'd be great if there were a few configuations that included multiple amps..acc..or even fiberglass overlays. - keep us posted.

I think he means something like this:

Just FYI, I couldn't find a good way to mount a 10" sub, so I went with an 8" Polk. It had the best specs for my needs. You might want to glass it, because it took about 20 hours to cut all the pieces of MDF necessary to fill the space properly.

Default box location

Being new with the 350z I have been looking for a stealth location for a woofer. I also comtemplated the idea of the same location. I have created a box very similar to 12xauto. My only question was to take the cover black fabric to a tailor to have a very nice opening so that the sound can come out in a proper manner.

yup, pretty much...the opening in the fabric isnt a big deal, bass finds away, as anyone who has herad my car can atest, my sub sits below a floor, and then a non-breathable rubber mat lol

if you could make one of those for each side of my car that could house a 12w3 per side, I would be all over that.

there is no way a 12 would fit, a w3 in the 10 inch size prolly wont fit well either...

looking to do: sq10, 9kv.2, or 7kv.2s from elemental designs on theproject...

i will of course figure otu what dimensional requirements will be needed to fit in the space

16PSIBrick, you have some fantastic installs on your website! Seeing as you are looking at something I already tried, I am coincidentally looking at something you already tried.
You made a raised floor, and covered it with the rear Z carpet. Frankly, I'm not real keen on it, so it's good to see how it would have looked even when done by a pro. I am thinking about doing a 10" sub with the basket exposed, firing down into a compartment that is a false floor. It's important to me to have a spare and jack, so a shallow false floor might provide the necessary sealed space. One of the rear corners might be a good place for it, so as not to compromise the ability to put a large object in the trunk. I can't help but wonder if the false floor would be aesthetically displeasing though. Maybe if it is covered with vinyl and lexan it will look classy. That approach seemed to work well on your other installs.

Aw, jeez Bing! Where were you over a year ago when I needed you!
Oh well at least I learned how to fiberglass. 10" is the largest you can go as long as the mounting depth is less than 7" I believe?
10" on BOTH sides would be the ultimate! but one is sufficient.
For me, I planned this out before I even ordered my car and as far as I am concerned was the ONLY way I was going to put a stealth system in the Z. If it wasn't for a couple of members doing this in a copule of ancient posts I'm not sure if I would have upgraded the stereo. I like the corner boxes that some have done but they are not total stealth or unobtrusive to the trunk space. Good luck with the details! It's tricky to measure it all out, a lot of hand fitting. But once you get it right it should be no harder to mass produce than any other sub box.

You are entering a crowded market....

I think the 8 or 10 would be your best choice. If you go 6, please make something that fits upfront.

hehe no worries guys, i am not entering the market myself, i will just guide it along...

as for sub duties...the 6.5s i would use acutally sound like a decently powered 10 when done with two fo them.

but as fara s the 10 goes, i am looking at this sub, about 3" deep, and works well in .3-.4 cub feet

depths and enclosure requirements wouldnt be a problem. and with a built in grille, it should just be literally a pop in. would most likely be precisely assembled and CNCed mdf versus fiberglass

With that kind of mounting depth you should be able to locate it considerably easier than I did mine and put it where you want it. I had to fight space with the wheel well on mine. A fine line of centering it between the wheel well, spare tire and still be able to make it tuck in under the trim pieces. I had to fight with a dome shaped grill too on my BA 10.5LF. A flat grill would have helped a little. I don't think you are really entering a saturated market if you have a new product. I know when I built mine there was some limited interest and 1 or 2 guys waiting for someone to produce it so they didn't have to do it themsevles. Really play up the benefits and you should be able to sell some. Good luck
