Why wouldn't Nissan add a push-button starter to the 07 350Z? BMW (335i) has it... Lexus (IS350) has it, Chevy (Corvette) has it... Infiniti (G35) has it...
What am I missing here? Is Nissan just holding back every year just to give the impression that the model is improving each year (first sat radio, then finally bluetooth)? I'm considering waiting until the summer just to see if the push-button starter "magically" appears for 08.

Because its a stupid gimic. Is it reall that hard to turn a damn key?

Sorry things like this are kind of a pet peeve of mine, but is anyonelse tired of cars getting loaded up with silly electronic crap like sat nav and blue tooth and huge sound systmes. If I wanted a sound system I would have bought one I just want a damn car.

 

I find it ridiculous to put a key in the ignition only to push a start button after.. If you can activate the ECU with the automatic locks to where all you need to do is press the start button, that would be cool.. Besides.. It's not a ferrari, Lambo, etc.. etc.. So I don't see a need

I could care less for that option, one less thing to go wrong.

 

I guess I was thinking about the convience factor. Not having to remove the key from your pocket to unlock your car and start it is neat. I know inserting the key is not a big deal. Besides, this isn't new technology to Nissan/Infiniti. Heck, they have it on the Altima now.

I put a fake button on my dash. No one can tell the difference. Sometimes I amaze myself.

The only time I found a use for the start button is on the track. When you spin out and stall, it's nice to be able to start the car just by pushing the button rather than having to reach for the key. But that's about the only place where I see a use for the button. All other times, it's just a hassle putting in the key, turning it to the On position, then hitting the start button with the other hand. It's an extra motion you don't need.

 

I think it's cool, but turning a key doesn't bother me either..

As the others say something else that could cause problems.

Would be nice though if the ignition had different angle as with other Nissan's slightly forward facing with lights around so easy to see the ignition for key placement.

Who says you have to put the key in the ignition before you push the button? I have not used this personally, but from what I understand, the key stays in your pocket when you push the button. That sounds great to me, very convenient. It's about time cars get a little smarter. Traditional keys have outlived their usefulness, imo. My home, my car, my office all should know I'm there and unlock the door without my inserting a key. Also, if you've ever locked your key in your car, where was it? Probably, it was in the ignition. Your pocket is a better place. Three thumbs up on the the push button start!

The key is still required for the aftermarket starter buttons, spose a factory one would be key in pocket, immobiliser off, them push to start.

 

In my S2K you have to put in the key and turn it, than push the button. That's a 05 S2k.

 

Up until the late 40's, early 50's most cars had push button start. The key operated start switch was considered a big step forward.

Why would you want your car equipped like a '47 Ford? Push button start is a silly retro gimmick.

Wow. Tough crowd. Who said anything about ignition button over performance? Are you trying to tell me that no serious performance car has an ignition button? It's called moving forward with improved technology. Like the DVD Nav in your Z. Is it really needed in a serious sport car?
