No Push-Button Start?
I think the push start thing is pretty cool. My friend's IS350 and my boss's GS300/LS460 has em. Just hold the brakes and push the button and bizzam! Lols. I believe to lock it all u do is like pull the doorhandle too with the key near your car. ***** pretty pimp IMO.
Wow, tough croud indeed. I seriously doubt anyone would yell RICE! if they were to get into their Ford GT, Enzo, Bugatti or Astom Martin and be faced with a start button (most of which you still have to insert a key for, just like the S2K; LOL.
Their probably waiting for the major redesign of the Z in '09 (?) to put in a start button. If they put one in the new Altima, you can bet the Z will have one, too (and the GTR, for that matter).
If you want one in your Z now, just follow my DIY posted above; many people have and love it. Sure, it's pretty much pointless, but it puts a smile on your face every time you hit it. And there isn't much to the thing to go wrong; you can still use the key to start it in the event of a failure, depending on how you wire it up.

Having tested both the '07 G35 and Altima sedans with push button start, I can say I was skeptical about the benefits. But over time in both products, it became clear that the technology works well and will most likely be offered on many more Nissan/Infiniti models in the future. The days of the ignition key are most likely limited!
But if I had to guess why it's not being offered on the '07 Z, I'd point to the usual suspect: economics. Including it with the Z33 mid-model freshening would have been much more complex and expensive than it might appear at first glance. The push button start also features a multilayered security system that rotates the radio signal being sent from the key FOB each time the car is started and stopped. This system is integrated into the software for ECU and vehicle operations. It's plainly obvious that car thieves are going to be attempting to break this (or any) security package and it looks like Nissan has done their homework on this system!
To reengineer the Z's software and then integrate it into production is most likely the reason(s) it's not being offered on the '07 models. I agree with MustGoFasteR that a push button start will most likely be offered on the next gen Z. It'll make much better business sense at that point.

I think it goes without saying that the next Z will certainly have it, since the new Altima does as well. David is exactly right about the monumental costs involved in introducing a major electrical change mid-cycle that requires an overall reengineering of the car itself (building an ECU from the ground up).
It all comes down to the famous economic concept called "Economies of Scale". In simpler terms, the more you make of something, the cheaper it gets.

Some more information about start buttons and keyless systems: Going Keyless. Notice the article was written 18 months ago. I'm sure we will see more cars supplied with this in the future.
I think it's pretty neat if you can unlock the door simply by carrying the key near the car door. It's also pretty cool that you can just sit in your car with the key in your pocket and just push a button to start the car. All these are obviously done by RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). I actually work with that technology at work. I'm a little concerned about security though. It's not that hard to create a chip and try to mimic the tag ID. Currently the class 1 generation 2 standard uses a 96 bits tag ID. 96 bits is not that easy to crack. But if you know the format of that 96 bits (the first couple bits being the company's ID, the next couple bits being the industry type, etc), you're really down to cracking down maybe 36 bits. So 2^36 possibilities. Then you do some simple thinking and know that companies always start that 36 bits by 1 and increment from there. Then lets say there are 1000 lambos in the US. So imagine a car theft carrying a bag of maybe a 1000 of active RFID chip(battery assisted chip). Each costs about $5. So that's really only $5000 of investment. Then he walks close to a lambo with that bag of chips and the door would most likely open for him and he can just press a button to turn the car on! How scary. I know I'm going so deep. But I'm in the industry and I see sooooo many flauds right now and it will need some serious security improvement.

the toyota prius...the electric car has it to where you get in and push the start button w/out turning a key.......and to put it in park you push a button too.....alot of cars will have them....its not really performance/racing or luxury thing anymore

I'm starting to feel like I'm being lectured by my great grandfather "What do you need power steering for? Back in my day..."

Seriously. Walk near the car and the doors unlock themselves. Sit in the car push a button and go. You guys see no benifit to this system?

Why wouldn't Nissan add a push-button starter to the 07 350Z? BMW (335i) has it... Lexus (IS350) has it, Chevy (Corvette) has it... Infiniti (G35) has it...
What am I missing here? Is Nissan just holding back every year just to give the impression that the model is improving each year (first sat radio, then finally bluetooth)? I'm considering waiting until the summer just to see if the push-button starter "magically" appears for 08.
No disrespect intended. Remember...be gentle please.

When enough people see this as important, it will happen. On vehicles not designed for luxury that they are trying to keep the cost and weight down, it will come a lot slower. Since weight probably isn't a factor(like an antenae motor is) it becomes a cost issue. Real enthusiasts probably don't give a rip that you start it one way or another if security is the same.
