Smile Any options for 2003Z to fit '06 stock MP3? (YES, I searched!)

Hey guys!

I have learned from you all that the new stock MP3 Bose units will NOT fit a 2003Z...correct??

So is there ANY way to make this work and is '06 the only year the stock decks played MP3's?

So is an aftermarket deck my only choice? I don't want a mounted 6disc stacker somewhere in the car.

Please help as I don't know much about this stuff...Thank you!!!

If you have an ipod I would consider getting that cable installed to the factory radio so you can plug it in. You dont lose sound quality like the FM transmitters and when you get out of the car you can take it with you. YOu can have an installer run the wire to the center cupholder/arm rest.

^Realcom2: Does that cable you mention affix just to the back of the stock head unit and then can be wired to cup holder for a plugin site? Does it take the place of the radio then? Will radio still work?

Sorry, more info would be great!

The stock head units prior to 06 did not play mp3s on CD. It's a useful thing but if you're going to spend any money I'd go for the iPod integration.

Not sure how it works with the radio controls on the Z but it would connect in the rear and the cable would be thread to come out where you want. I am not techincal with steros and such so this would not be a DIY for me. You may need to use the ipod to change tracks on the ipod? It was $200 for my honda and basically you can have them place the wire where you want so long as it reaches.

Barmats: Is the "Ipod integration" you mentioned something different than what Realcom is saying??

Is just going with a single cd mp3 compatible head unit the smartest way to go? I was worried about theft and just messing up the clean look of the dash.

Any ideas on that?

No, the iPod integration is the same as what realcom2 is talking about, and is what I'd recommend over trying to fit an 06 head unit into your 03. And you are correct in that it won't retrofit very well.

If all you want is the ability to play mp3 tunes, then I'd consider the cable. It connects to the back of the head unit and terminates externally in a cable that plugs into the headphone jack of your iPod. You may be able to adapt it to fit an iPod holder, but I'm not sure.

But if you're looking to improve your stock setup, I'd definitely upgrade the head unit and get something that will play CDs burned with mp3 tracks. My 06 plays these and it's a nice option to have.
