okay, if i had known the video part needs IPod input i would have given you more slack

thast no problem, let me know a day when you are free, i can give you as much slack as you want...but keep in mind too much wiring ther makes it kind of messy interms of stealthy stowage of the IPOD

I was also pretty sad to see the D3 at CES this year ... the whole unit has definitely taken a down-market approach. From the visible disc slot to the cheap screen and the high-gloss finish .. it just looks "cheap" in comparison to the Z/D1&2

after having dealt with the motor problems of the d-1. I think a 1 slot solution + ipod is a better option to go with.

btw bing, I looked in the leftovers of my stock HU and found 4 gold screws of same size and length. 1 long gold screw with a smaller diameter. one silver screw, and another shorter & thicker one with a washer.

Actually, it IS a headunit. It's for my other ride. I needed 3 pioneer products to get the discount at CF.

The price is awsome! The cheapest you could get is $799 according to pricegrabber.com. So question is.. why would anyone go for the Z1(costs about $1700) when the D3 has all the functions that Z1 has? The only difference I could see is that Z1 has a 30GB hard drive versus D3 has a 15GB and the screen is 7" compared to 6.1".

Wait... I read more about it. The D3's Nav is DVD based. So when you want to watch DVD, you have to eject the Nav's DVD? So what's the 15GB hard drive for?!

NO HD with D3 at least its very small if any... Z1 has the HD that you can use for music.

Oh I read it wrong. It's saying the Navi data size is 15GB. That's probably the size of the navi map data on the DVD.

crutchfield is runnin a promo right now for $999 with free back up camera it seems on the D3.

Is the ability to plug in the external HD for sure?
Cause I'd hate to swap a nav dvd in and out every time i wanna map somewheres knowing how i treat my cd's.

yes, pioneers can output whatever is ont he screen, be it the nav or the dvd, to one or many secondary video sources.
Hey Brick I think we both stand corrected by the avic forums... the D3 won't let you output nav z1 however could.

Hey guys, I personally own this unit. I have the D3 in my 4runner and a D2 in my Z. The D2 is the older one, but in my mind it is better. For one, it loads faster, even though they claim the new one is faster. Secondly, the D2 has 2 slots- means no need to stop your car every time you need to get new directions HUGE PITA! It loads the disc info. per route desired. The D2's NAV DVD ROM is independent of the music ROM. The D3 has the cool feature where it matches your dash lighting. Some of you are probably thinking that the new DVD player on the D3 would make it worthit.. and you wouldnt be wrong at all. I fixed that prob in the Z with a PS2 in the rear storage unit, fits like a glove, great picture and sound. But overall, I would have to rate the D2 as being a better unit, especially if you dont have the patience to reload maps over and over. Go D3 if your looking for show quality and watching movies on the screen(which you cant when you are mobile anyway). Both are nice, enjoy your AVIC D3 if you have any tips for me on mine, let me know thanks.

fairlady, geomark, and anyone else with a d3, i was hoping you could give me some install tips...where did you end up putting:
1) the GPS antenna
2) Bluetooth module
3) Ipod cable (the OEM cubby seems like the logical choice there!)

thanks in advance!
