Hey guys I know alot of you on here have been waiting on the new D3's to come in. We just personally installed one into a WRX a few days ago. Overall for the price this unit is a steal. Navigation with Dvd for a grand "retail" You cant beat that. The only thing I do not like about this unit is pioneer went really cheap with the screen. It might of just of been the car but you CANNOT see this screen during the day. It washes completely out. During the this display is pretty sweet but not a screen you want if you do alot of DAILY driving.

When evaluating other products I notice that touch-screens do not deliver the razor-sharp image you get with plain LCD’s (even inexpensive LCDs).

EDIT: A trick I’ve used with some degree of success is setting the color level (to the extreme, high or low). Don’t know if this is appropriate for this device though.

BTW guys I've been reading over on avic411.com forums for awhile and just learned.
I would say the only disadvantage of the D3 if you are so inclined to using cds/dvds for music would be swapping discs to route a different destination.

It seems many people are misinformed on DVD navi. The DVD is only accessed when you input an adress or search through POI's. After you chose a destination, it stores the instructions/route in its Flash based memory. You can then take out the DVD if you choose, or leave it. IF you take it out, you have about a 10 mile radius outside of the already mapped out destination before it request to place the DVD back in.

This would mean that if say you were to make a wrong turn somewhere... it would be possible for the navigation to redirect you back on track to your destination?
Thats exactly what it means. You have to go miles and miles off route before it would be unable to route you back to the original one

I have a D3 on order and should have it a few days. I will install pictures once I install it in the Z.

i just did one today in a G35...forgot to take pics
overall, i like it, easy to use, deent graphics...screen is okay...
the biggest gripe of course, is the lack of two disc loading ability, so the constant swap back and forth between the nav disc and cd/ dvd disc...but for someone who dont use the nav disc a lot, this is a great unit for hte price![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

^^ b... Just curious about your opinion on touch screens vs. plain LCD’s.
After comparing various units, I installed a Power Acoustik PT-700MHR LCD driven by a Garmin GVN52. The maps and text display is razor sharp. The display (in my opinion) looks better than I’ve seen with the “all-in-one” double-din touch-screen units. That is especially true under strong ambient light.

yeah, by definition a normal LCD will be a little better in picture quality than the touchscreen, but i will never use anyhting as complicated as a dvd and/or nav unit wtihout a touch screen ![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
yes, pioneers can output whatever is ont he screen, be it the nav or the dvd, to one or many secondary video sources.

Hey bing, I'll post pics of the D3 when I get the car back from ZCG tomorrow. Thanks alot.
I got the ipod videos playing but I have to access the video playlist with the Ipod, the cable is a little bit too short to navigate easily. 1 1/2 - 2 more inches of cable might make things easier.
