Default Problem with component woofer and door panel

I installed JL 6.5" components in the front. I used the stock OEM speaker as the spacer (the method where you cut up the oem speaker and mount the new one in it.)

anyway, after installation i noticed that the speaker grill on the door panel wasnt flush. i popped it out and saw that the edge, rubber surround part of the woofer was barely touching the inner door panel. BARELY touching. but still, if i put the bass up i'm sure the excersion would hit the panel and cause damage.

has anyone ran into this problem? is there a fix?

here are pics to show what i mean:

Why not buy 1/2 or 1 inch(cant remember) spacer's ? I have not seen this setup with the OEM speaker spacer tried b4 but it looks like damage ready to happen.

door pod time. for a pair of JL components I think you'd really benefit from some door pods.

I'm about to do mine this weekend. Best thing I can think of is making a slightly smaller spacer to give it enough clearance. Definitely wouldn't want to ignore this.

I had the problem with my Bostons and they were also hitting the window when rolled down. I angled the spacer toward the driver and now both problems are solved. Pods/kicks would give you a better sound but this will work.
