Interface Update
That kicks ***! I'm still using the basic G-Net interface for my Auto PC. Still in the process of adding things, although I'm up to the MP3, DVD, GPS, TV. I'd also be interesting in what camera's you are using as well.
ProjectGoose,
No, never saw team knight rider, but I did see Knight Rider 2000...which was a piece unfortunately. When they killed Devon and handed flag over to the bald guy and a woman...it just wasn't the same.
They were gonna start a show called Knight Rider 2099 (I think that was it). It was gonna be a very futuristic.

I'll try to answer as much as I can.
Videos will start in the window u see in the pic. Clicking on it will bring you to a fullscreen version. Click on Fullscreen will bring u back to a window. Voice command does the same. Simple
I'm working on MP3 visualizations. Using mediaplayer to handle stuff, so untill I start using ver 8 or 9, have to wait on that.
I will be using webcams, got 2 of them on ebay for 18 bux each. Super cheap and works great. Im surprise how well it does on low light. Using webcams makes it easy for people to get and cheaper too.
Have not set any price, but looking to between 35- 40 with members here getting a discount.
This will be universal program, for any car or pc. I made it on my desktop pc and it runs great.
Screen choice is up to you, I made it for touchscreen and working on IR, and keyboard command. Mouse works too. As for background, its black, the 'chick' isn't a picture, but a moving 3d model that talks.
Well KITT was my inspiration
but I didn't want to get into any legal problems for using the image and selling it. I created the voice box before which moved to music or sound. But without William Daniels as the voice, its not KITT.
As for TV/Radio/other, I will make the Cell phone to either be external program or cell. Like the GPS button.
For the cell phone, if it support AT commands, it should work. You'll need a data cable made for your phone which connects to serial port or usb.
Hopefully, I can finish this in a week or two and make a video demo. Still have to work on the cam to make it switch between different ones (front, inside, rear) and work out all the bugs. Weather should be good enought for me to install my system and give it a road test. Man I can't wait

I just started to review cameras, and I do like the cost of the webcams compared to bullit type CCD cameras. I'm just not sure where/how to mount the webcam. I'm guessing you would dis-assemble the case the lens is in, and have it peeking through a hole somewhere at rear of car?

Any ideas?
I'm thinking the cell phone is correctly acting as a modem, but not a telephony modem.

35-40 bux only. Cheap compare to GNet's interface that does half of what mines will do, did I mention voice control too

I was able to hook up my cell phone, and have windows find it as a modem. I could get a dialer program to have the phone dial a number, but that was as far as I could get. Not sure how to hear the person who answers, and how to talk to the person.

Alfared,
Have you considered putting an OBD-II decoder into the software? Just a thought.
Scafremon,
Not sure about the AT commands specific to your phone, they're not universal at all. To tell my Iridium phone to dial a voice call you must use ATD PHONENUMBER; to indicate it's a voice whereas ATD PHONENUMBER would be a data call.

As for AT commands, No there are not universal. I have an option built in to allow users to input their own AT commands for their own phone. So if I decide to buy a new cell, I can still use the interface.

Haha, sorry.
I thought you were selling an entire system, comp, montior, cameras, everything.

Don't think the infrared would be necessary. It'll be super hard to find a spot to install it in the back because of all the IR LEDs that they have. Plus I've tried the web cam in low light, and can still see. Don't see any problems with the Z's rear lights shining too.

Just one more cool little feature that'd be nice... Most GPS can use the NMEA 0183 protocol or TSIP if it's a Trimble GPS. I work for the Army Space & Missile Defense Battle lab, we developed some mapping/navigation software for military purposes. One of the cool things that we did was to make it so the computer clock was set using GPS time (This was especially important for us because of timing issues using our satellite radios)
I don't know about the commercial GPS software and whether it'll already do this, but you could have your interface listening to the serial port the GPS is hooked up to and without too much trouble be able to set the time if it's one of those 2 protocols. I can probably get some C++ source for you to do this if you're interested. Trust me I understand if you're not interested, gotta watch out for feature creep. BTW, I'm volunteering to beta test your software if you'd like.
