Strangest engine noise problem
I'm hoping someone on here has had this problem before and has any clue as to what is causing it. I've had my system installed for 9 months now and have intermittent issues with alternator (engine) noise. The best solution is probably to run a new pair of interconnects - I used a cat 5 network cable before and that worked wonders in my old car - but I'm trying to get around this the lazy man's way by just using a filter.
The problem is this: the filter works MOST of the time and eliminates the engine noise almost completely. Unfortunately, at random intervals, the right channel audio cuts out and the noise becomes an issue again. I have no idea what's causing this and I've tried 3 different noise filters, all reproducing the same problem. I know this is an issue with the filter because the system works fine all the time when I pull the filter out of the system.
Anyone have any ideas?
My system setup:
Pioneer Avic D3
Orion HCCA 6s components
Orion Xtreme 500.4 amp
JL Audio 10W0

swap the incomming amp RCAs or wires so the right and left channel are swapped....if the trouble moves to the left....you know it is the AMP or signal before the AMP, if it doesn't switch sided it is the speaker wires....grounding somewhere most likely.

Try relocating the rca run, where do you have it now. it should be separated from the power wire and if you must cross it do so at 90 degree angles. Also the type of RCA might make a difference, did you try using a twisted pair. You should be able to get a clean sound without the use of filters.
I just know of a situation in my professional life where a bad connection made the shielded cable into an antenna causing all kinds of noise to be induced into the communication line. You've already replaced filters, have you tried replacing the rca? Aside from that, if it were me my next move would be relocating the wire to another spot. I would probably go to the extent of running the RCA outside of all the interior panels, so I can move it around. Yeah, it's a little ghetto, but it's not the solution it's just a way to troubleshoot it.
