What should I do with my trade-in's stereo?
My Z (performance brickyard) should be arriving in early May. I currently have a 1998 Integra which I've put a bit of money into the stereo on. I'll be trading it in, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with the current stereo.
The Integra has 4 MB Quarts (front and rear, with separate tweeter/woofers in the front), a 75Wx4 Alpine amp, and a decent JVC MP3 head unit. I *think* the speakers are all 6.5, although anymore I seem to forget. I definitely have the better speakers up front, and I know they are 6.5's.
I'm a definite audiophile. I have a decent home stereo setup and play bass in two community symphonies, so I feel I know decent audio quality (and especially decent bass =)). The MB Quarts are nice (quite clean) but I feel they bottom out too quickly. (I have no subwoofer.) So I'm pleased with the system but not overwhelmed.
Long story short (too late now?
) : What should I do with my existing car stereo? I assume I won't get anything extra for it on a trade in -- is that an accurate assumption? I still have all 4 original speakers and the original head unit, but I don't know how to re-install/rewire it all -- I had it done at a local stereo shop. In looking at the existing speakers, the connectors on them look like they had their old connectors snipped off -- there may be some additional hardware required if I need to reinstall them.
Should I take it back in to the stereo shop and have them re-install the stock equipment? It sounds like I may have some difficulties using these 6.5's in the front of the 350z, and the back sounds like it may accomidate 6.75's, so I don't even know if 6.5s will fit.
Anyway, I'm just a little unsure what I should do here. I hate thinking about giving the dealer the stereo for free (since I don't think I'll get anything extra out of it), but then I hate think about paying to have it removed since I don't know the first thing about doing it all myself.
Any assistance would be appreciated. If swapping parts out really isn't hard, I wouldn't mind some pointers to web sites that might help -- I'm handy with a soldering iron and am not against learning to do this myself, if I'm not gonna screw things up too badly =)
Thanks,
George
