Default Speaker Deals?

I'm trying to decide what to do with my Bose system. I really didn't want to have to upgrade, and I don't even require and audiophile quality system with high SPLs. I'm just not very pleased with the imaging or bass in the Bose.

A mid to mid-high end stereo store here in town is having their 2x a year sale, with stuff supposedly 10% over cost. Here are a few options I was looking at on front seperates:

Bostons:
650s (not sure the whole model, didn't get it written down) $450 normal price, $300 sale price

RC620s $299 normal, $200 sale

MB Quart:

RCE216 Can't remember normal, sale $200
PCE216 sale $375

Are these good prices? Are these current models, or old stuff?

I really don't want to have to go full system, and would like to see if I could be happy with just a component set with the stock HU at the moment. Is this even a doable thing? Don't Bose systems normally run speakers at a pretty low ohm?

I really liked the more expensive Bostons, but the MB Quart RCE216 would probably be OK for me. Just not sure if it is worth considering without doing HU/Amp/Sub, too.

Hey, here's some sound advice... buy your stuff online!!!!

Much cheaper at web-sites like "www.carmedia1.com" or "www.onlinecarstereo.com" and others.

Check them out and then compare the prices at say,...Crutchfield.com

Good Luck

Neither of those (which I'd already looked at) had any of the speakers I was looking at. Bostons weren't even carried, and the MB Quarts were the "D" models, which I had figured might be the older model stuff.

Default Ebay

I have been tracking MB Quart on e-bay and there have been at least four sets of PSD 216's some of them brand new in box with warranty. They all went for between 150.00 and 250.00. The PSD 216 is last years model of the second highest in their line. Last time I saw a bid on the R series coax it was at 65.00 Another good site to check out is DealTime.com. I'm in the same boat. Expensive taste in SQ and little or no money.

I just didn't intend to spend a bunch on a car stereo I listen to talk radio on about 50% of the time I just have some serious listening fatigue with the Bose. Somehow it is related to the tweeters I think.
