new Z electronics questions
Hi all-
Just bought a new Z last weekend. I love it!
Didnt get the nav, but i did get the Bose (sorta)Premium sound system.
I have a couple of questions though..
If I was to add a DVD/NAV/MP3 computer system (like Ive seen on this forum in the past little bit), is there a way to tie it in to the stock sound system without using an FM modulator?
Thanks. I think I have all the info I need in order to figure out the computer install. Might have some more questions about the screen, but we'll cross that when we come to it. Heck, I need to make a few payments first I think!

there is a few ways to get an "aux" input to your OEM radio. Unfortunately none are plug-n-play. one is to trigger the radios NAV input which will mute the radio and open up the line input for the nav (which is not actually installed of course) and the audio from aftermarked devices can input that way. Another option is to add an input triggerd from a switch ( or other device turning on.) we typicaly will tap into the preamp section of the radio just before the main volume control. A third way is an adapter by a company called Soundgate. These adapters plug into the OEM changer port on the radio and allow audio input, But.... according to soundgate there is no offering for the 350z at this time. hope this helps..

yo man, your post sounds almost as if you SELL something to do those first 2 things....
if you sell anything that could be done at home for those that are technically inclined but not willing to blindly hack away at the system, let us know what it is, how it will work, and HOW MUCH!
I am most likely going to have to go to hi fi buys and let them tap into it most likely going through route number 2, but if you can open it up, and give some instructions on how to do it, hell Id be more than willing to pay for just the instructions.

i can agree with that, ares. im an engineer by trade, and definitely no novice with the soldering iron.
if you can fool the stock system into thinking the audio signal is the NAV then that would be killer.. thats my favorite idea so far. ive only had it 4 days, so i havent had the dash apart (yet).. is there some sort of plug ill have to send the audio through? what style is it?
ares- you're in GA? im in atlanta--decatur to be exact. im just beginning the long process of learning about my Z and learning of all the upgrades available. ive been into jeeps and off roading for a long long time now, and this is something new. saw your posts about the in-dash computer, and thats what i plan to do. ill PM you later on about the monitor and how to mount it. maybe we'll meet up sometime!

I suppose I will just have to take our Z apart and figure this out. Let me work on it and i'll get back to you with the results. The input adapters are a circuit we build as needed, no production numbers. Each is a little different depending on the radio it's in. They consist of a small preamp IC and and an audio switch IC along with the usual caps, resistors.... A quick note, I think it would be better suited to tie into the OEM changer port. The nav input is typically only 1 channel (mono) whereas the changer port would have the right and the left (stereo) inputs. Let me tinker with it mabe I can get a kit set up for you all out there. Price should be pretty cheap, no expensive parts are needed.
if you do it, Ill be there, be sure to keep us updated, for now Im going with FM modulator, but Id love to get a stereo input through the changer. a switch to change inputs is fine by me, (bonus points if I can activate it with the PC )
