Default 9 con wire?

ok so i went to my local audio shop where i was told to use this really thick wire that has like 9 smaller wires in it for the 4 channel amp to the harness behind the head unit...they sais it was called 9 con and charged me 1.50 a foot...is this something that i really need? i already soldered the wires for my head unit and dont see why i would need this...i also searched and nothing came up...if anyone needs i can take a picture but i already ran it in the car...i just dont want to use it if it is not necessary....im running jl mids/highs , alpine single din hu, alpine amps, and kicker subs...i know its all mix matched because most of it came from when i had my rsx...i have everything ran so far except for this 9 con...can anyone help?

It is basically all your speaker wires and a remote turn on wire in one nice jacket. It keeps you from running multiple speaker wires. The benefit is a nicer run of wires and they are usually color coded for easier identification. The drawback is they are usually thinner gauge wires than what you would usually run in a high end install. The answer to your question is "no" you did not really need the 9 con wire, but it does make to job easier in some installs.

thanks for the help...im new to audio and im installing all my audio myself...actually i been working on it for about 4-5 days thanks to the rain and school....i ran all the wires from front to back already so does this mean that i need to hook up the 9 con for the front and rear speakers to work? i already soldered the colors in the harness together behind the head unit...

you should have just purchased a adapter harness for the head unit. wires will go from you amp to your speakers?

Ok, you will have your wire harness that connects with your factory plug, then, you will connect your headunit harness to the harness you connected to factory. like this ("factory plug---->-harness from crutchfield-------->-headunit harness------->-connect to headunit. I am sure someone here can explain it a lot easier,,,I only had a few hours sleep lastnight and I am pooped.

You will run RCA's from your headnit to your amp/amp's. THEN,,,you will run speaker wire from your amp/amps to your front's/ rear's/ and sub/'s/

Again, I hope this makes sense. Good luck with everything and post pics when you get finished. I would enjoy seeing your set up...Good luck!
