Default Pioneer Premier DEH-P690 - 4G iPod Photo

Ok, I finally got my car back from the audio shop after a three day install of my system. I didn't go with nearly the system that I originally put together, nor did I go with the original shop that I had my appointment with but I did go with the Pioneer Premier head unit. However the HU does not recognize my iPod when I switch the source to USB. I have a 4G iPod photo that I bought from someone with the most recent software update from iTunes. When my audio guy connected his iPod it worked just fine.

What am I doing wrong?

I have the pioneer 6900ub, which is similar to the premier unit. The usb input works with only the 5th gen ipod video and ipod nano. The older generations must use the ipod cable.

Pardon my inexperience, I am not a regular user of an iPod. In fact, I only bought it (paid $50 for it) in anticipation of this new car system. Does that mean I would have my installer connect a regular iPod cable to the head unit in one of the auxiliary inputs? Or can I just connect my regular iPod cable to the cable already connected to the USB input?

My bad! The older ipods can't use the usb or the usb ipod cable. You have to install the CD-IB100II unit for use with the fourth generation and older ipods. This is the interface adapter that you'll need
