New Z owner, calling all Zaudio experts ;)
Hey all! Ive had my Z for 2 weeks and the only complaint I have about it is: the stereo just plain sucks. I like listening loud, and when I turn the stock stereo up past about 23, it hurts my ears, its like listening to....well I cant come up with a good metaphor, but damn its terrible.
Anyway on the meat: I did some searching around and a ton of browsing just to see what people in general do. I like the farenheit screens in the cubby spot that Ive seen, and I will definitely go with a double din HU but there is where my decisiveness ends, so I thought I would ask some of you audio expert opinions.
Goals:
-Try to keep things under 1300 total. All work done myself.
-Full rounded sound. Im not an obsessed audiophile, but I like good sound.
-Good solid bass
-Keeping as much room as possible. I barely fit mine and my girlfriends luggage in there as it is, and I am a consultant so I travel a lot.
-Navi, assuming its within budget
-MP3 Capability
-No need to keep spare tire at this point
-I dont want to cut holes in the doors
-would like *some* sort of blind spot camera but that would just be nice to have/extra
What I have, pulled from my last car:
2 12 inch audiobahn subs
1 1k watt audiobahn amp
2 kenwood full range 6 1/2s
I knew the downfalls of audiobahns before I bought them but I got great deals on them and they sounded pretty good....but I had a bit of trouble with the audiobahn amp overheating so I am leary of putting it down in a custom encloser in the spot where the spare tire goes.
Im not set on keeping all, or even any of what I already have, its just a starting point to work with. I have my doubts I can fit both 12s in there with the room I have.

Other people far more knowledgeable on prices will chime in, but i doubt you can get a navi system with that budget and the 2 12"s arn't what your looking for if you want to save space. I think a 10" in the rear corner might suit you better...
But you could always just get smart, dump the girlfriend, and put your luggage in the passenger seat

Agreed with above, $1300 for a double DIN, extra screen and full audio is a bit of a stretch......
Can you sell your existing eqpt on ebay to make some $$ to bump up your budget a bit? Or can you piece it together? like get the headunit now, add an amp/subs/speakers later, then add on the screen in the cubby?
Which Double DIN headunit are you looking at? Let's start there and we'll see how much cash we have left and we can see what you can get......

OK, here's what I'm envisioning......
Headunit -
Alpine IVA-W205 saw one on ebay for around $700 shipped.
Amplifier -
Alpine MRV-F545 saw one on ebay for around $350 shipped.
Subwoofer -
JL Audio 10W3V3 saw one on ebay for around $190 shipped.
Zenclosures under strut box $140
Components -
CDT Audio CL-E61NEO Slim Frame components saw one on ebay for around $250 shipped.
The above equipment would run you $1630
Then figure another $175 for wire and sound damping.
Not sure the specs on your Audiobahn amp, but if it's got enough juice, you can feel free to use it. A watt is a watt.
use the existing OEM speakers and mod them to use as spacers in the doors so you don't need pods - FREE
and do the speaker grill mod to open it up - cost of some grill cloth
You could use the coaxials you have now and run them off the headunit for rear fill, but I don't recommend any rear speakers in the Z.
The headunit does not have built in navi, but it can easily be added by purchasing the Alpine Black Bird (later if need be). And then of course the extra screen.
Other components to look at are Focal polyglass, Diamond D661s, and a lot of people here like the JL components. All of which can be found in fairly similar price ranges as the above cdt set.
