avic Z1 acting up when hot
any one out there with the Z1 having this problem?
at first startup in the morning it loads all up clean and clear but once the car warms up nice and hot (about and hour of driving or so) it starts to skip songs and the gps stops working.
now that it is hot as hell here in miami if i let the car sit in the sun for a few hours and come back and turn it on the screen just stays stuck on that pioneer start up screen and all i can use is the volume control.
i went to the place i had it installed and was told i had to deal with pioneer because the first year of warranty is with them... got like 4 more months to go.. im thinking of just waiting... don't want the headache of dealing with the kids at pioneer.

thats why i dont wanna send it in bro... i got mine at brandsmart and bought like 3 years of warranty ... if they cant fix it... they just replace the suker..
It started acting up after I left the car out for 2 days in above 90 degree weather and then it did it regularly. Any time my car was above about 80 degrees it would freeze. I've had it back for about 2 months and it froze only once. Mine also had a problem playing back stored music on the hard drive. It started to play the music and then would skip to the next song at random times.

The fans helped a lot. The only problem is that if you start the car hot then you can't really do anything except restart the system. I'm planning on trying to route some ac in the center console pretty soon here. I also have the farenhieght screen on top and that overheats also. I did have a problem with the fans though. They sucked up a lot of dust in the center console. After about 2 months I opened the center console and it was pretty bad.
Just wanted to give everyone this info, I just got it from pioneer. This might help your problems. I havn't done it yet on mine but will try probably tonight.

Re: Free Firmware Update for Pioneer AVIC-Z1 & AVIC-Z2 to Address Lock-up/Freezing Issue
We would like to inform you of the availability of a free firmware update for the AVIC-Z1 and AVIC-Z2 to address a potential lock-up/freezing issue. Pioneer has become aware that a small percentage of AVIC-Z1 and AVIC-Z2 systems, especially in very hot temperatures, lock-up or freeze when powered on, such that the systems do not proceed further than the initial boot up screen. If you are not experiencing any lock-up or freezing issues currently, there is no need to take action at this time because the one-time fix to resolve the issue will be available if an AVIC-Z1 or AVIC-Z2 later experiences the issue and because your system may never experience the issue. Importantly, this potential service issue does not pose any health or safety risk, and there is no risk ofproperty damage. To address this potential service issue, Pioneer is offering a free firmware update. If you would like to receive the free update, you may do so in one of the three ways listed below. Before obtaining the firmware update, you need to know whether you have an AVIC-Z1 or AVIC-Z2. Download the free update to your computer from http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/avicz1update/ and burn the update onto a computer disc for insertion into your AVIC-Z1 or AVIC-Z2; OR Order a computer disc containing the free update by calling Pioneer Customer Service toll free at 800-421-1404; OR Call Pioneer Customer Service toll free at 800-421-1404 to arrange for your AVIC-Z1 or AVIC-Z2 to be mailed to Pioneer for installation by Pioneer of the free update. There are separate firmware updates for the AVIC-Z1 and AVIC-Z2. Please only use the firmware update that corresponds to your model, as the firmware update for the AVIC-Z1 will not work for the AVIC-Z2 and the firmware update for the AVIC-Z2 will not work for the AVIC-Z1. If you have any questions, please contact Pioneer Customer Service toll free at 800-421-1404 Pioneer service representatives are available Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Eastern Time).
