Ridiculous - Car Toys
So I recently bought a AVIC D-2 from a forum member on here... and I went into Car Toys to get a quote on installation of this head unit. Included in the quote was the PAC OEM 1 and the installation of the XM nav traffic. But, I was going to supply the harness and the dash kit.
Anyways... they quote me freaking $735 for the installation! No custom work, few parts. I mean I was providing the harness already wired. I waited for about 45 min to get the quote. I told the guy I wanted the PAC OEM 1 to run the HU through the Bose Amplifyer and he told me, "No you need the PAC OS-2". I knew more about this crap than this guy did just by reading the forums here. When when he told me the , I simply said "That is ridiculous" and walked out. I barely kept my self from laughing.
I also got quotes from Ultimate Electronics and Best Buy and they were around $330-$350. Best Buy's price was going to go down since they were going to reduce the cost by the harness and the kit I was providing. THe installation labor was $150 for the HU and about $50 for the sat receiver.
THe conclusion is that I am just going to do this myself. I just though I would share just how retarded Car Toys is.

I was about to bring my business to a car toyz here in CA as well, but a friend told me not to, thanks for the confirmation. the guys i spoke to on the phone weren't very friendly as well, kept rushing me to get off the phone with them.
plus we have all seen many horror stories at these small shops of scratched up dashs that were removed with wedge screwdrivers and whatnot.
no one will ever treat your car like you, the z is a very difficult car to worth with in terms of space. any joe schmoe with fat fingers wont take the time to do it right and will just pull and push things as hard as possible to get it done as fast as possible.
and you will be very happy knowing you diy. plus if anything goes wrong you will know your way around your car to fix it. theres plenty of howtos with good quality pics to help you along the way in these forums

You shouldn't have any problems doing it your self...just refer to the site if you need help running the speed sensor wire or the reverse sensor (which I wouldn't even do, I skipped this step on my sister's D2 and it works perfectly)
You could probably even find some local that's done it before willing to lend a hand.
