Amp going off and on
Ok the new sub SUCKS. I went to get the Alpine type R 10" and they were out of them so I got the RF Punch 10" that was about the same price. The salesman said it was better too. BLAHHH. The PPI sub is way better than the Punch.
ANYONE have a suggestion for a hard hitting clean sounding sub for a Zenclosure? Try to keep the price @ $200 or below. Thanks!

Could just be a deffect in the sub from the factory. That's what warranties are for. Glad you got it figured out.
BTW I hate when I'm right.

If is an '07 P3 then that is actually a very good sub. The amp and X-over may need to be readjusted and there is a VERY NOTICABLE break in period on the RF subs.
You may want to find out if you keep it for a little while if the shop will let you get something else if you still don't like it. But if you can, break it in for a while.
If you want it to hit a little harder, raise the cross over point just slightly. this sub most likely has a little bit heavier cone/motor assembly than the PPI.
I build a lot of demo cars for Rockford Corp. so I have extensive experience with there equipment.
Check out the portfolio section of my website and you'll see what I mean.

It's not that it's not trying to hit hard. If I put the same power as I had going to the PPI it distorts. I went back and watched the sub with the stereo running and it was jumping all over the place and doing that distorted pop where the PPI wasn't.
I'm not sure what you mean by raising the crossover point but I'm pretty sure it's just the quality of the sub. I have 30 days to return it but I'm looking for something better now. Even my installer who deals with a lot of high end stuff said he was impressed by the output of the PPI. I just hope I can get another one that will work. I'm waiting on my online contact to get back to me.
Until then though I need suggestions for a replacement. I don't want to go over 200

I just don't see how it could be wired wrong. It's the same type of sub the PPI is. It's getting the same power. It sounds "decent" at lower volumes. It just starts getting a distorted at higher power.
The PPI sub sounded great at the same power. It was also 4 ohm...it's not the wiring...

I tried it and surprisingly enough I think it does sound better. Still not what the PPI was. So I'm still going to look for another sub.
Thanks for the advice though. That's weird as hell

Doug- I never thought plugging a negative into a positive would work but I'm still kind of in shock that it sounds a little better. I wonder why though...the PPI was connected positive to positive and negative to negative....
