High-Quality "Shallow-Mount-Depth" Subs
Ok guys, I had purchased two brand new Alpine Type-R subs with hopes of making a nice "custom install" but it looks like the mounting depth of the subs are WAY too big to make this an easy task, or atleast how we had originally planned to do things.
Any suggestions on some great quality "shallow mount" subs? Im looking to keep the amp I have now which will handle 1000W RMS to a 2 ohm-stable load. Originally, I had planned on wiring the two Alpine's, which are at 500W RMS a piece, and that would've been perfect, but now I may have to change it up a bit. Any ideas? I'm open to two 10s, two 12s, 13s, 1 15, etc.. As long as the total is around 1000W RMS at 2 ohm. Thanks for the input.

These have a 5" mounting depth. How much space do you have?

Yeah, there's some ideas. Thanks. This will be going into the spare tire area, so all that junk coming out and all this "good stuff" going in. It'll look as if I didn't ever have a system installed essentially.. hopefully! But not sure about the depth. I just know the Alpine Type-Rs wont work at stock floor height bc of their mounting depth.

6-7" is about right. Remember, you need to leave at least an inch behind the subwoofer. I would not worry about glassing the bottom of the enclosure. For the 3/4" you'll save by not using wood, it's not worth the work. You'll have to drill out a hole for the spare tire mounting point to go through. Use it to secure your box.

if your using 2 subs
RF p3 shallow mount
they can share 1000 watts NO PROBLEM
you bought alpines
i would change your plan make the alpines work
instead of getting more subs and keeping your plan the same
IMHO
