Default Custom Stereo Install

I'm looking to get a customized stereo installation but something more on the DL. I'm not into the fiberglass neon lit subs, etc etc. Has anyone here done that sort of thing by just replacing the speakers and the sub woofer? If so, can you recommend the perfect 6.5" front & rear speakers and a 10" sub that would fit the stock housing? Oh, and if you live anywhere within the tri-state area in NYC please tell me where I can get that done. Thanks!

I wouldn't mess around with the stock 10" housing. To much work to be done to make it sound right in there.

Search my friend.... No one can recommend the perfect speaker- everyone has different taste. You will also be limited to how much money you want to spend and whether or not you want component speakers or coax type.

Look at Kwame's install thread and get the name of his shop. While his install is very high end, I'm sure they can do simple too.

I would advise you to spend your money on set of high quality 2-way components, a good multi-channel amp, a good sub and a headunit. In reality this is all you need in a Z. Some of us tend to go overboard .

I would give you advice on what equipment to buy, but I am known to go over budget in things I suggest.

Can you do all of that and still afford to get it installed, all for $2500?

Just rough figures:

Head unit- $300
2 way components- $300
Sub- $200
Amp- $400
TOTAL- $1200.

That leaves $1300 for installation. In reality, install should be less than $500, so you have $800 of "stuff".

i will say this, a good 40 percentf of the Z installs on my site is 2500 dollars
i would be more than happy to advise you further if you want...just PM me..

but in general:

a decent headunit: $300

DLS iridium 6.2 in kick panels: $950

DLS RA50 5 channel amplifer to run the front comps active and the sub $750

zen enclosure box and two Image dynamics ID10s, $400

wiring etc...100 bucks

get that installed right and tuned right, it would sound REALLY good.

i would be happy to hook you up with the gear as well...infact, i even know someone whos selling a very very slightly used RA50 for a good cost...cough mike cough lol

I don't think it would be hard at all for a good installer to make a box that would fit in the stock location.

the ID is not bad, most efficient out of all ID subs, good SQ (about i would say 90 percent of ithe IDQ) with acutally a bit more output than the IDQ, and cheaper than IDQ or IDmax line
