Smile Stock Unit Preamp Out?

Hello,

Before anyone yells at me, I did search the forums and couldn't find my answer, so if someone has already asked this and another thread has the answer, please point me there.

I have a Sub and an Amp that a friend gave me and I wanted to put it in my Z. Well all I specifically want to know is if the stock unit has a pre-amp out for that? And if anyone could tell me if it is an RCA jack for that or some other kind of connection? (As far as I'm aware they are almost always RCA right?)

I didn't want to tear out the center console if I need a new head unit.

Thanks,
Brandon

If you mean non-Bose by "stock" - no there is no pre-amp output from the non-Bose system. You could use a speaker level to line-level adapter.

The stock Bose system has line-level outputs that feed two tiny amplifiers but does NOT use RCA connectors. I would assume that they're typical 1 to 2 volt outputs rather than a 4 volt but I would still measure before connecting a nice new amplifier up to them. You wouldn't smoke the new amp but might over drive the input to it unless it has a variable input (most better ones do).

You always start with the volume and amplifier gain low when setting up the system gains any ways. Step two is to crank the head-end's volume up to 75% or so and then bring the amp gain up while measuring for distortion, then backing down.

Yea I figured someone might say something like that. I will try the line-level thing. It shouldn't be to hard to do, I've taken 4 Electronics classes so it shouldn't be to hard. I was already thinking about it anyways in case there wasn't a pre-amp out.

I just wanted to know if it had a pre amp out in it before I ripped out the center console.

So thanks for the answer!!
