Default Any way to mount a sub without taking up trunk space?

I need all the trunk space I can get for camping, etc - is there any way to mount a sub without putting it in the trunk? How about the place where the standard BOSE sub sits?

I mounted a 10 inch infinity in the stock bose location, and it sounds great. Just make sure you dynomat the entire area where the sub goes, around it and also the plastic cover as it will rattle like crazy if you don't.

I went to car toys and talked with those guys a few months ago about putting a sub in. They wanted to put a box underneath the rear strut bar, but I prefer to have all my hatch space for other items. I'm assuming the factory bose sub is behind the driver seat. If so, I asked about this, and they said no way. Said it would sound horrible. Anybody have any thoughts on this.

I had a Diamond in the factory location behind drivers seat come with the used Z I bought. I Thought it sounded decent, mainly because it's 5 inches behind you. However, I put it into a Zenclosure box under the rear strut yesterday because I am waiting on my JL subs and amps. It sound 5 times better in the box without any changes to the amp or box itself. Makes me realize how terrible the factory place really is, even if dynamat were placed inside it.

My advice, if you want a sub to sound good in a car, it has to be in an MDF box with proper air space. Either put it under the strut or in a custom enclosure made by a pro. Thats the only way. Otherwise it's no better than a fan blowing air..

a zenclosure's a really good way to save space. It's not like the area under that strut is very functional anyway, and it looks really good too

in the Z, if you dont want to take up trunk space, you have three real optoins:

1. wickedcas roadster box that fits in the stock bose location and is a real enclosure

2. wickedcas or custom side mount fiberglass box that takes up very little real trunk space

3. custom subbox/instlal that takes place of the spare tire

If you go zenclosure make sure you get the type-s box. It saves a lil bit more space than the regular zenclosure box. Plus it looks great!

PM me your cell number and I'll send some camera phone pix to u ASAP

350zspl you are absolutely right "sounds good" is subjective, to me it sounds great for my needs. I worked when i was younger for a stereo shop and we did many competition systems, which were meant to be competition systems. I really don't need the take apart my car bass, as long as it sounds clean, clear and deep enough it's good enough for me. I'm sure there are much better setups out there, again depending on what you are looking to get out of it.. and there will always be a better setup and i'm sure yours is one of those... enjoy

chefrey, I'm interested in more info on your sub in the factory spot. My local audio shop wants $400 to build a box for that space, which is completely absurd. what did you do, how much did it cost, etc? thx.
