Kenwood DNX7100 vs. Pioneer D3…
Kenwood’s. OEM supplier is Garmin, and Garmin’s stock price doubled last year (for good reason). Kenwood provides some significant GPS functions/advantages over Pioneer.
Mapping Data
Kenwood uses NAVTEQ data while Pioneer licenses Tele Atlas data. Which is better? It’s almost too close to call, but most evaluators seem to give NAVTEQ higher scores for North America maps.
Map Display
Pioneer displays the map in a traditional (Rand McNally) view while Kenwood uses a more “animated/interpreted” display. The choice is personal preference.
Digital Input
Kenwood uses a SanDisk slot and card to load data and applications software, and updates use the same device. It’s all-digital with no moving parts avoiding mechanical failures and enabling fast updates using Kenwood’s website. There is no requirement to purchase or wait for physical disks. Pioneer uses a DVD player to load its maps, application software, and updates. Pioneer provides updates (mapping and application software) on DVD disks. That means you order a new disk, wait for it to arrive in the Mail, and then update your device with this disk.
Performance
Kenwood using all RAM/ROM and a SanDisk is much faster and more reliable than Pioneer's DVD based structure.

Pioneer's DVD based nav can be a hassle when you try to change your destination while the system is already set with a different destination.
But, D3 can fit perfectly into our amber lit cockpit...
Which is better?
It's all upto personal preference.
If you search, you will find whole lot of feedbacks from the owners.
