10" Kappa Perfect VQ subwoofer question
Does anybody have first hand experience with the 10" Kappa Perfect VQ subwoofer? I want to replace the stock Bose, and want to keep it in the stock location behind the drivers’ seat. I am after a "tight" and "detailed" sound as apposed to super loud and farty. I listen to mostly new/old Rock, not Rap or Hip Hop. The reason I am looking at the Kappa is that it claims the following: "offers the unique Variable Q feature, which allows you to optimize the speaker for use with a variety of enclosures — sealed, ported, or bandpass (even free-air applications). The sub is shipped with two metal polepiece inserts, which can be plugged into the motor assembly to vary the stiffness of the suspension:
large insert: small sealed or ported boxes, SPL competition
small insert: medium size sealed or ported boxes
no insert: very large enclosures or free-air use
This patent pending approach also allows you to change the character of your bass for different applications. Imagine — you could tune your subs for sound quality during the week, then retune for an SPL competition on the weekend! Leave it to Infinity to take bass to a whole new place.
Any and all input from you audio gurus will be greatly appreciated. Please note that I am pretty adamant about using the Stock sub location. Also, at least for now I plan on keeping the stock HU and amp. I know that this setup will have it's limitations, however I am on a tight budget. Thanks!
