It is most likely your hood pin. Disconnect it first and see if the problem goes away. The hood pins only function is to set the alarm off. All other switches can be tested because they control lights (dome light, cargo light) in addition to the alarm.

Can't be - he's got a roadster (2004 or later), the hood pin was only present on the 2003 Z.

Are you sure about that? Why would they take it off? They still have them on all the Zs, although the newer ones are a bit more sophisticated.

My '04.5 350Z service manual shows that both the normal Z and the roadster have a hood switch - light green/blue at pin 56 of the BCM.

I'm very certain as I have a 2004.5 Z and there is no hood pin, not like there was on the 2003 models. From what I recall reading/hearing, they were removed because they were non-functional. I haven't seen one on a Z since the 2003 models. I recall when the idea of adding a shock sensor came up a few years ago, Z owners had to tie them to one of the door pin or rear hatch lines under the dash because there was no hood pin or wiring for it in the harness that could be used.

My 2004.5 service manual (which you should have a copy of mine as I sent it to you when were were trying to get the DLM wiring worked out), doesn't show any connections to pin 56 in either the BCS or BL sections. There is a diagram in the BL section under Vehicle Security that shows the hood switch tied to IPDM, not the BCS. But there's no hood pin unless it is built into the hood latch somehow but I don't see any wiring connecting to the latch. I do know that the Z will let you arm the alarm with the hood open.

Very interesting. My 04 G35 has one, and it is as functional as the Zs was.

Yeah, you are right, it isn't the BCM, its the IPDM it shows that it is connected to. I know on the newer G35s the pin is integrated in to the latch and it connects to the IPDM.

Tomorrow you need to arm your alarm with the windows down, then reach in and pop your hood! If your alarm goes off, you have a hood pin. If it doesn't, then i would be satisfied that you don't. (that is to the OP and you Dave, get on it!)

I knew the G35's had the hood pin. I'll have to try the test and see what happens.

BTW - the hood pin references are removed from the '07 manual.

If there is a light under the hood, there must be pin.

I don't believe there is a light under the hood though, is there?

Yes, it is terribly inconvenient.

Just tested my 04.5 and as I always believed, we have no hood alarm. I armed it with the window down, waited 30+ seconds for the dash light to start blinking then popped the hood open. I even lifted the hood fully open to make sure. Not a peep.

I'd be curious to know if the 03 models really have one or as claimed, it's not really functional.

Interesting, I know I've read threads on here about people getting false alarms from the hood pin. Maybe I'm getting this place mixed up with g35driver.com

take it to the dealership at about 8:55 and see if it does it again.
That way the dealership can see that there is a problem that needs to
be identified and fixed.

Uhh, better yet, disregard that idea. You might not get your car back the way you brought it in. There could be some cosmetic damages, or electrical issues that they caused...and to top it all off, they'll charge you for the damage that they did. Gotta love them dealerships.
