I installed the voice recognition software that works with the Copilot 2003 GPS Navigation system I have on my In-Car PC. It is SO cool. I plugged the mic into the mic jack in the back and it is ready to go.
The software recognizes phrases like "Pan left/right/up/down or "zoom in/out" and it moves the screen as directed. If you say "Speed" it tells you how fast you're going. If you say "heading" it tells you the direction. If you say "detour" it maps out a detour from it's current plan. If you say "after that" it tells you your next move (a stop or a turn etc). If you say "how far" it gives you distance to next stop. If you say "ETA" it gives you that.
It has a lot more too. I was sitting in the car in my garage playing with this and I couldn't help but laugh to myself. I was having a conversation WITH MY CAR!!!
Just call me KNIGHT RIDER!!!
Now I have to buy a long wire with a small mic to clip onto my visor like the one for my hands-free cell phone. I wonder if there is any way of using that mike for both?

might want a good mic or engine noise could become a problem, also might start talkin to you if you if you play the right song.
that does sound sweet, as if the computer isnt cool by itself, when it starts listening to what you say, I think that would pretty much top off the "wow" factor. passenger might think your nuts tho.
so copilot is 300 right? includes everything you need, how is its cold boot time? whered you mount the reciever?
and how much and what is the name of the voice recognition software?

yeah, you need a good mic to get good response when driving. I got one with far field technology, suppose to minimize surrounding noise and focus on you own. I mounted it under the steering column where the factory bose mic would be. its usb so just connected it to a hub.
CoPilot is $350 (thats the cheapest I've seen on the net) the voice control and speech output is pretty dated, its watson's speech. Was created by AT&T. Voice is pretty robotic, its like talking to Stephen Hawkins. I hid the GPS antenna under the dash, in the center near the top. Even if you rip the dash open its pretty hard to see and take. It was a real pain to run the usb wire up there (I ran it on the side under that second plastic panel in the center console. man have to figure a way to stop showing that splash screen, maybe that'll cut the load time (about 4-5 sec)

Alpha is correct. It wqas $350. The boot up time is only a couple of seconds for CoPilot. Like maybe 4 or 5 if that. I have my antenna in the back between the strut and the speaker box.
I played with the BIOS of the computer to get my boot up time for the Mainboard down considerably. I
