Default Quick Audio Question...(about Pioneer deck)

Hey all,

I really dont know too much about audio but this will def be my first mod in my new 07 Enthusiast...

Anyway I have the stock system now but I want something that will sound good and before I start doing speakers/amp etc I want to replace the face unit. I bought a Pioneer DEH-P7800MP last year for my old car and it was fantastic...Is this good enough to keep for my Z? Or do you reccomend something else??

I figure this would be a good place to start and then I can start doing speakers and subs etc.

Summary:

Basically I am asking if the Pioneer DEH-P7800MP is a good unit.

Thats up to you if you like the unit or not. I've got the premier version, the 780mp and I love mine. I plan on getting an avic z2 soon but the only thing I'll mainly miss is the 16 band eq compared to the one on the z2. But what sucks is when I bought mine earlier this year is was one of the best that pioneer had to offer if you didnt want bluetooth, and then a month later it was discontinued so the value of it dropped.

Yea I love it...

I put it in my SRT-4 and to ME it sounded way better than the stock unit.

Im not sure about the differences between the premier and mine but they look the same.

as far as I know the premier just has an extra year warranty on them. I think the voltage for the preouts might be higher also.

The Pioneer DEH-P7800MP is a good H/U. But, installing this into your Z may not provide the sound you want. That’s because the Z’s OEM speakers (Clarion components in the front and coaxials in the rear) are really cheap and crappy. I don’t think you can even buy this sub-level/quality speaker from Clarion in the aftermarket.

Replacing the H/U is a good idea, but you should plan doing this with a replacement of at least the poor quality front OEM speakers.

Ok, I went over to bestbuy/Circuit city yesterday and the guy reccomended some sort of Alpine speakers.

They are about 100 bucks for (2) front speakers.

Does that sound about right?? And should I do front AND back, or just front?

if you're gonna spend the money, get a good set of components. The alpine type x comps are great, but pricey,I've heard good things about the type r components also, but from alpine, those are probably the only two sets I'd run. I've got a set of CDT Audio in mine now. As for the rear,I would just get something decent, but you dont have to go all out for the rears. I recommend putting an amp to them also, but only if it fits your budget. The head unit and new components up front are already gonna make such a big difference.
