Well I finally got this mod done. It was even easier than 06blueZ said. I did it just like he did, audio controls only. The install took maybe 45 mins. They work perfectly. I did mess up and put the steering wheel back on wrong. Its slightly off. There are marks on the wheel and the shaft that I thought I lined up, but I guess I didn't. No big deal though, I should be able to fix that easily.
Thanks again 06blueZ for posting this. Made my car much more enjoyable.

Both button assemblies are wired together, and I decided not to have the non-functional cruise controls installed. I removed the cruise portion from the harness and kept the blank piece on the right side of the wheel.

This all just plugs in. You can install the cruise controls if you want, but they wont work, just light up.

Here a few pictures from my installation.
Wow so on '06 and later Z's the audio controls panel just plugs right in to the factory plug? So it does work with the base radio? Too cool.

Allthough it aint gonna work with my new steering wheel

Yup, I have a 07 base and the plug is already in the column. Works just fine with the base radio. I have no intention of upgrading the steering wheel or radio so it works great for me.

Not as easily as on an 06+, the wiring in the steering wheel and ribbon cable is not all there I dont think. There will be additional parts involved i believe...

Your'e gonna want to follow this DIY for your application i think:

Huh. Need this.

Anyone swapped in the stock Nismo wheel (red stitch/perforated leather) at the same time? That would be cool.
