Default Advice Needed

Currently I have two type Alpine Type R's in the Z running off. Each ten is running off it's own Alpine MRP-M650. I am considering replacing the amp becuase I am not satisfied with the base, tightness and over all sound quality.

I am considering purchasing a JL Audio 500-1 and just go to the top. Is this amp any good and will it run two Type R's "Dual Voice Coil" or should I replace the sub's and go with another one.

The subbox I have is the understrut box fron Zenclsoure.

Please advise soonest.

R,

i would recomend going with a different box that box only has .75 cuft of airspace those subs require a minimum of .75 each so they need at least twice as much. that will improve your bass a lot. those amps should push plenty of power to drive those subs very well.. the jl amp is an excellent amp though it will only push 500 rms to the subs and each one of those subs is rated for 500 so you would probably want a little larger amp imo. i would recommend trying a different box first and if you still are not pleased then try a different amp. just my .02

I though that box was .70 pers side, the specs are as follows:

Airspace: approx. 1.41 cu. ft. total. The box is divided into two chambers with .70 cu ft per sub/chamber.
Mounting Depth: 8.5"+
Mounting Hole: 9 1/8" this is standard for most 10" subwoofers
Condstucted with 3/4" MDF
Sealed Airtight
Terminals installed ready to wire
Covered in high grade Automotive Black Carpet.

So what am I actually running with the airspace on that box then!

oh could be i just glanced at the first one i saw on ebay it said it was only .75 total might have been a different box.. if your information is correct you might try some polyfil in side the box to trick the subs into thinking there is more airspace.. having more airspace for those subs wouldnt hurt at all though.. also how are the subs wired up? if they are wired at 8ohms then you wont be getting the max power out of those amps.. for best results the subs should be wired at 2 ohms each..

Well let's think about this:

The Alpine MRP-M650 = 600 rms x1 @ 2ohms
JL Audio 500/1 = 500 rms x1 @ any ohms

Your Alpine Type R 10" - are these dual 2ohms or dual 4ohms? How are they wired? The sub has a rms handling of 500 rms watts (250 per coil). The Alpine amps are providing over that at 2 ohms. If they are seeing a 4ohm load then they are putting out 400 watts. I don't see why you would make the switch from a 600 watt amp to a 500 watt amp.
