I've had a couple of transmitters and they all sound like garbage. I finally just had a connection hard-wired in.

I use the Tape Deck Adapter and it works a hell of a lot better then the transmitter. 1 cool thing is when you get a call and the person is on surround sound. LOL

My Iphone is connected to the "direct connect" cable to my Alpine W-200. It does everything like the Ipod, but as you said,,,it mutes softly if phone rings or text.
