Default budget on car stereo...but need something better...audio guys...help

ok i am upgrading the bose headunit, to a d3.

minus the d3 i dont want to spend more then 800 bucks if i can. heres what i need...something that will work well with the unit, as well as something that sounds a lot better then what i got now.

i listen to predominately electro...mostly house or progressive. but the occasional hardstyle,...so it will have to be able to hit the bass hard!!

so help me outl...im an audio noob

if you save up more audio budget now, you won't be kicking yourself in the butt later.

^^^ Nice sig pic!!!

Anyway, back on topic.

Front speakers only?
rear speakers?
How much hatch space are you willing to give up?

$800 for speakers/amps/subs should get you something nice.

i dont need a sub,...im just running speakers...i just want something that will work well with the D3, cuz i know my bose are sheit with it...

i will eventually give in and get a sub, so i guess something that is capable of being added witha sub, and in terms of hatch room...i already have a meth kit in my trunk and a nos kit, so im already giving u pthe spare tire, so i have plenty of room

OK, so for components and amp? You can definitely get something nice for $800. Now without a sub you will not get a lot of low end, you do know that right? Let me look around and see what I can dig up that may fit your needs.

OK, if you need to have your brand names so be it. This would sound pretty good I think.

Alpine PDX-2.150
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=4737

Alpine SPX-17REF
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=5812

JL Audio XA-PCS4-1
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2920

The aluminum cones will give you that punchiness you want and will blend well with a sub when/if you add one. All for just over $600. Of course if you have read around in this forum, you can probably get a better performing system for less money by going non-mainstream. But I can understand needing the brand names.

ok i looked at your part suggestions...you think it would be good to just go with front speakers, and completely delete the rears??

any reason for this?

You can save money by not getting rears and thereby getting a better set of front components. Try the install without the rears and see if you like it. you can always add a set of coaxials run off the headunit if you feel you need them.

I listen to the same music as you, and I just finished my install. I thought I would be satisfied with just components and HU, but after getting the sub, the music really comes alive. The components can now more effectively reproduce the mids and highs, and it sounds superb.

How are those Alpine components vs. the Infinity Perfects?

don't feel bad the industry loves you, they thrive on name brand lovers

if you most go that route

Kicker is my favorite mainstream , name brand company

they make good mids and highs, good amps and good subs

how will it hit hard in your mind with components and rear fill, it most defeinetly will not hit hard

you might get some mid bass

^^^ that JL setup I'm sure would sound good too, but that doesn't leave much room in the budget for wiring and sound damping.

Glad your sub filled in some much needed low end

Alpines and Infinitys are along the same lines in my opinion as far as quality. Both solid companies. Of yourse you will get fan boys telling you that Alpine is better because they make solid headunits. But as for speakers, I would actually give the edge to Infinity. Infinity has been making speakers a LOOOONG time and have only gotten better by being purchased by Harmon.

that's probably the only component i like from JL. JL doesn't really make good components...especially for the price. But i know brands are important to some people. I got to hear the jl xr series in a car and didn't sound as good as i thought. Not sure if it's just because of the imaging in that car or what, just didnt sound right to my ears. The ones i posted, it's like 800 bucks at my JL dealer. You are paying a lot for the name on this one. I'm not going ot lie.

yeah, not enough for wiring. but what is a few extra bucks.

If the OP has heard of Focal, I would suggest a set of 165KP's over the JL zr set.....OP, have you heard of Focal? Is that a brand name that you would rock?

Well, a very popular combo on this forum is:

Focal polyglass 165kp components

JL 10W6 in an understrut box

JL 300/2 to power components

JL 500/1 to power sub

This isn't my cup of tea, but the brands are sure to impress some people.
