Default need more....bass

I currently have two RF 10's in an understrut box. Coming from a Ranger with two 15's and 1200 watts, the 10's just aren't cutting it. I never considered the 15's in the Z because I thought there was no way they'd fit. Well today, after pulling the spare and everything else in the hatch out to lay down 4 coats of Quiet Car to drop my noise floor, I noticed how much space is in the corners of the hatch. Now I'm pondering getting rid of my 10's and dropping the 15's into fiberglass boxes in the corners.

Current: 1.2ft2 understrut box, 2 ea RF10" 400w rms, 1 us amps 1100 w rms amp
Proposed: 2 ea 1.5 ft2 box, 2 ea Audiobahn AW1500's, 1 ea Audiobahn 1300HC 1200w rms amp

You might want to have a look at other subwoofers first. Audiobahn is a company all about bling and their products performance isn't that great. For the money, you can buy much better performing subwoofers and/or amplifiers. Do some searching around first - companies like Image Dynamics, Stereo Integrity, Incriminator Audio make very reliable, very good performing subwoofers. For amps there are a lot of others as well like Sundown Audio (actually, ID now makes amps), and Incriminator Audio might be some to look into. There are others, but those come to mind first.

Oh, and no 15" subwoofer will meet a .707 alignment in 1.5 cubes sealed and have respectable LFE. If you're looking at 1.5 cubes you might want to steer towards 12" woofers. Not only will you still have good output, but the bottom end will be cleaner and in most circumstances have the same amount of LFE as a pair of 15's crammed into too small of a box. Remember that smaller boxes don't = tighter bass.

+1 on audiobahn

Is your goal strictly SPL? If so, 350zspl will chime in for sure and I would take all the advice he has to give. He knows his stuff when it comes to LOUD and quality.

If it were me, I would look into Digital Designs subs and add on a Crossfire VR1000d amp.

you will see loads of output off 1 each 15" ported in a Z
i would not do sealed as the boxes for 2 , 1 in each corner will be to small
if you can even make it work

you can get tremendous SPL and retain SQ with a fairly flat response using

1 each Digital Design 15" # 9515 tuned at 40 hertz in about 3 net

1 each 15" RD Audio Sonance or Alpha V.2, or Elite V.2 in about 3 net at 35 to 38 hertz

1 each FI BL or BTL again in 3 net 32-37 hertz ported

1 each RE SX 15" or MT again 3 net 35-39 hertz

how much power do you have, what kinda electrical are you pre-parred to do
and what $ you have

I respect uze guys opinions on DD. But I already have the RF's in the car which I am not overly joyous with. And I already have the Audiobahn equipment sitting in my office from a previous install. Adiobahn for SQ is terrrrrrible I must admit. But the older Audiobahns would hit. So my choices are Audiobahn AW15's or the current RF 10's.

My goals is to have alot more bass than the RF's are putting out, without spending much more money. I know I can get more bass out of the 10's in a better box, but then I have to sacrifice trunk space. Obviously, the 15's will eliminate alot more space, including the spare tire, jack and tools. But I think with enough work, I can get my two 15's to sound somewhat reasonable and have 2-3's the output of the 10's. Or should I just go with a box designed to get more out of my 10's?

ElectroDynamics....what is that you are referring to when you say ".707 alignment"?

It's the sealed alignment that is generally agreed upon in the audio community as the best low end extension while keeping box volume down to as little as possible. Larger boxes than a .707 yield higher F3's but lower F10's (more really really low bass). But, a lot of the time going larger than a .707 alignment isn't necessary.

Now, if you're going for all-out loudness, go ported. A good single 15 or pair of 12's will do just fine. Any of the companies I mentioned or others mentioned in this thread will get loud enough if done right.

I guess I don't understand...my single 10" $75 Infinity sub on a 10 year old 250 watt amp hits much harder than I could ever want it. Am I missing something?

I should have been more clear. Do you want deeper bass, louder bass, both?

Two IDMAX12's would probably give you what you want, but if you want 15's because they are 15's, go for it.

One 10" will hit hard, but everyone has different needs. One 10" (DLS IR10) was not nearly enough for me... even though it hit hard. 2- IDMAX 12's are perfect.... for me.

I have no particular fascination with 15's...they're not very "musical" in my opinion...at least most that I've heard. The reason I speak of the 15's is because I already own them. But to answer your question, the 10's are lacking in both loudness and deepness. After years of dual 12's and/or 15's, the 10's just don't cut it for me....not sure if its familiarity with bigger subs or deafness

Probably both...

If you've got the 15's, go for it. I put an IDQ15 in my Z before the IDMAX's and it was very musical... but didn't give me the oooomph down low I was looking for.

There is 15" sub post in here somewhere where a guy has 5 15's in his car. Might give you some ideas.
