so help me outl...im an audio noob
On amazon.com, you can get a D3 for $650 shipped brand new.

Hope that helps your budget.

Yes, there is a site called woofersetc.com. this should fall within your 1500 budget......perhaps even WITH the Zenclosures understrut box from Mike.

$800 with the D3, or $800 not including that?
Check the thread "speaker sizes" on the first page of the sub-forum. Good shiz in there.

I just replaced my speaker setup. I previously ran alpine type-X 6.5 components in the doors and a 10" type-X alpine sub in an understrut box. I now have Phoenix Gold RSd 65cs components which are INFINITELY better than the alpines. the alpines were much too difficult to mount in OEM location and MUCH too harsh for my tastes. I swapped out the alpine sub, which I like a lot, but having a huge understrut box was much too intrusive. I replaced that with Nazar's rear corner magic box with JL 10w3v3 sub. I am not running any rear speakers. I am very happy with my setup now... no fitment issues, the components are very pleasing to my ears and the sub still hits hard, but takes up almost no space. I am running a big@ss PG Xenon X200.4 amp.
For an $800 bugdet, you could do the same speaker setup
$100 shipped for the components
$550 shipped for sub and enclosure
Find an amp for whatever you feel comfortable spending. I would think a JL 2 channel amp would compliment this setup well.

Unless you are a true audophile, pay close attention to fitment on the speakers and enclosure. Mounting speakers in OEM location is HARD.. there is next to no room due to the windows. I personally hated the understrut location for my sub, but due to the mounting depth and not too apt to do a custom enclosure, I was limited in my options. I am so much happier with my wicked CAS magic box enclosure. Based on my experience, spend the money on a good sub and enclosure because you can find decent components for relatively cheap

Good luck... mine are just suggestions based on what was recommended to me. I know very little about car audio and I now have a setup I really like.
