I agree with you completely that they are hard... The hard part is walking the line of getting the best speaker for the money, installing it in the stock location (muffled or not) and not screwing up my sail panel when I add the after market tweeter...

Money is not the issue, I just want a speaker that satisifes my functional requirements....

Yes I am amping the Comps w/ a Blaupunkt pnp 275 and adding a single 10 and it will be powered by another PNP 275. I am using a cleansweep as well.

I have a $700 credit with woofersetc so they have to sell the brand of speaker being recommended...

Thanks.... (blood just squirted from my ears)

If you are dead set against pods or kicks:

Get the CDT's that you were looking at.
Get the $20 spacers that Zenclosure sells.
Perform the DIY OEM speaker grill mod (there are 2 different ones).
Mount mids in doors using spacers.
Find a place for the tweets.

Or you can:
Get the $20 spacers that Zenclosure sells.
Perform the DIY OEM speaker grill mod (there are 2 different ones).
Buy these and mount in the stock location:

Default CDT's

OK, if the CDT's are 2.75" deep, and the depth from the panel to the window is 1" and the ring is 1" how are the CDT's going to fit with no further modification?

Will I still need to use stand offs and angle the spacer ring?

The mounting depth without spacer is more than 1". people have mounted infinity kappas in the oe location with no spacers. The mounting dept has got to be around 2.25" or so I would imagine. I haven't actually measured, but I know it's more than 1".

Default depth

maybe it is, I do not have my measurement sheet where I can get to it.

But I am pretty sure that if you take a measurement around the 7-8 o'clock position that it is not very deep, but I assume that the magnet will clear the window on the CDT's and that is why it is a moot point.

I appreciate all of your help on this busy Monday afternoon, and hopefully I can still afford my car payment since I have done nothing today, and I will still be employed in the morning... wtf...

but for real, thanks for the info... I am sure I will have more questions before it is all said and done...

Roper, check out this thread on the ICIX eD forums
You can see how they mounted their mids and tweets -- I think this will help you visualize... They mounted an eD 6500 mid which has a 2.8" mounting depth using a 0.75" spacer. They had to grind a tab off of the mid's frame, so I would worry more about the the diameter of your basket/magnet.

Default cool

good, so a 1" spacer and a 2.75 speaker should fit no problem.

I'm not sure you will know that definitively until you actually attempt to mount them. However, I do know the eD mids are very structurally similar to some of the CDT mids... so I would say you have a pretty good shot!
Worst case scenario they dont fit and you sell your components and lose $20.
