Focal 5.25" components...
I know the correct size for door components is 6.5, but i can get a CRAZY low deal on the Focal slims and unfortunately they are 5.25"...
Should i buy these or go with the 6.5?
How much difference in sound is there between the 5.25 and 6.5?
please help me out.. total audio noob....

if you could get an altima exhaust for your 350z for a great deal.. would you buy it and have it fabricated just to save a few pennies that you may end up spending in fabrication anyway?
You get better midrange punch with the 6.5s. If you don't care for that, than the 5.25s will suffice. If you're willing to put the effort, you could add some 6.5s at a later time for a three-way setup.
That reminds me, I have a set of 5.25 focal utopias gathering dust somewhere.

this is why i leave most of thse posts alone
i think its pointless to give suggestions to people who have already made up their mind, and that saving money is the number 1 priority...
these are what i call "concensus grabbing" threads

if my mind was already set on getting the 5.25" (cheaper) components I would not have even bothered with this thread... As i said before, i am really new to car audio and just want to get as many opinions/suggestions as possible... maybe my "5.2 vs 6.5 speaker size" question is a silly question to you guys that have been in the audio scene for a while, but me being new and not knowing much, i thought it was a legit question...
saving money is not my #1 priority... my number one priority is to do it right the FIRST time.. hence all the threads and questions... I mean i could have picked something up 3 weeks ago and already had a system installed, but instead im doing the research so that i do everything right...
of course i would love to save some money in the audio dept, and put that saved money to say, a big brake kit, but if you audio guys think that going with 5.25 instead of 6.5 makes that big of a difference, then surely i will not cheap out and get the smaller speakers, and again, this is why i asked the question in the first place...
I am glad though that you replied to my thread, 16psibrick. Reading and searching the audio section for the last 3 weeks i can definetely see that you know what you're talking about, and i would love to get some help from you...
I am still very much confused on what components to get, as well as the placement of the components... perphaps i can PM or call??
i was referring to you.
i have seen posts like this countless times, people have a set in mind, picked out, sometimes not to the best interest of overall SQ...and they ask for advice. where as most of the more involved stereo guys will right away suggest other wise, as you will see in the few responses oyu got advising you to go away from the 5.25"...somteimes though, the OP will just come up with reasoning on why they should stay with their original plan.
these kinds of threads gets old on me real fast, i may have answered thousands of them over the years on various forums....
so...if this is not the case with you, then i truly apologize...and if you want my honest take...here goes:
IMO its most advantageous to get a 6.5" upfront if possible, 6.5" speaker produce more mdbass, and there for, allow better bass upfront effect by crossing the subwoofer lower.
this is true in the Z. not to mention i also believe that location is very imporant also so i suggest doing them in door pods or kicks instead of hte stock location.
now, seeing that you said a $320 dollar set of focals online is beyond your price range, then i would guess that door pods and kicks are out of your price rnage as well.
so having said that, stock location in the Z is designed for a 6.5", so i suggest going that route.
will a pair of 5.25" work and make sound? sure, will it sound "decent" to some people that oyu ask, of course, but speaking from my own experience, if doing it right the first time is your goal, then i suggest not going for the 5.25" and going with a 6.5".
spending more cash and doing it once and for all is the very definition of "doing it right the first time".
so thats my suggestion on your situation

I will be going with 6.5" in the doors.. I would like to go with the door pods or kicks, but i dont want to lose the dead pedal or anymore space down at the feet.. I will however try to sound deaden the door as best i can, as long as i am in there...
About components:
I originally bought the MB Quarts Q-Series (to be installed)... I then returned them due to many comments from people on here (you included) that they will be waay too "bright"... I def do not want my ears to bleed or have listening fatigue set in on the 50 mile route i drive everyday...
I am now looking at the Diamond 661s or the Focals... Any other "warmer" sounding components i should be looking at in the $200-$300 range?
I think i can go with the $320 Focals, but these are not the slim version right? i think the slims are $380+
