Default Guaging interest on doing a batch of A pillar tweeter mounts for you guys...

okay, lately i have gotten quite a few PMs regarding possibly making A- Pillar tweeter mounts for people...initially i didnt want to do it, becuase its quite a bit of work (2 to 3 times easily of a set of kicks), and requires a car to be at my disposal to at least do the initial aiming and molding.

but i keeping on hearing it so I figure i would make a post to see just what kind of interest is out there.

now here are some details:

I. what they will look like: they will NOT be the little dah corner pods i did on one of the Zs recently, that is just way too much time involved doing the delicate molding and a much more difficult process to mount. What these will be is molded A pillars, very similar to the corvette i just finished:

this way, its a very straight forward installation process, the tweeter will already be mounted, with wires coming out, just pluck it back in and wire it up. a 10 mins affair. the top finish will either be vinyl or SEM texture paint, which ever way matches the best, i cant gurantee a completely 100 percent match, but i should be able to get it pretty close, like the vette.

II. Requirements to utilize the A pillars: I want to make sure, that if you are getting these, you have the right tools to properly utilize them...if you just got a pair of normal comps off a amp, there isnt much sense in spending the cash on these, but if you ahve a nice set of speakres, and have good time alginment ability, this design would give you a very nice and high stage and solid center image.

III. How many I plan to make: Being that they are very tedious to make right, and very time consuming, and i aboslutely hate sanding lol the plan as of right now is, if i can get at least 3 orders together, i will do it, but no more than 5. 5 is the absolute limit. And this is prolly the only time i will do them in at least a 6 month period...i really hate sanding trust me so 3 - 5 for this batch.

IV. How long will it take: from the time i have the payment and everyone A pilalrs here, i would require at least 2-3 weeks to get them done, if not a month, i may ship one out after another as i get htem done based on who pays first...but again, i have to squeez them in as i get free time, working around normally scheduled cars

V. How much will it cost: well, this is the hard question...i am anticipating, that if i add all the hours together to do one, its a good 2-3 day of work from start to finish...i would say, for now, if there is 3 people in the batch, it would prolly be around $500-600 per pair, if we get 5 people, then i can prolly lower it down to $400-$500...i have to do some more thinking on this though...it really is quite time consuming...

I will, however, offer discounts for sure when the A pilalrse are bought in conjunction with speakers that i offer, such as Seas, DLS, etc...the amount of package discount will be dependent on the speaker purchase of course.

VI. where we go from here. I am going to start a liste below, if you are definetly interested in getting a set, put your name down, and then, next to it, tell me waht your target prce is (please be reasonable), and if you plan to purchase the tweeters from me or you already have them, liste what ones you have in mind either way. I iwll see how it goes, and if i decide to go forth, i will prolly just start pcking the first 5 guys who are solid

so here goes:

example:

0: John doe - $450-$550 - will purcahse tweets from you most likely DLS Irdiiums

so here is the list:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

If you made a mold, you could pump them out for a LOT less (ie $100/set) to where you could sell a lot of them.

i would never trust something that needs to be as delicate interms of fit and finish such as A pillars to Mold, besides, then it would become someting that looks like those snap on A pillar guage pods interms of fitment and looks...I havent seen any installer that is halfway decent, ever try to do A pillars by popping out of a mold. THis isnt those Formed ABS plastic made in China pods you see from time to time

i am going for quality, not quanity, being a focal fan, you should appreciate that

I have my old set of A-pillars with cutouts I'd be happy to donate to the first person, Bing. Whether or not the existing cutouts would interfere with what you are trying to do would have to be determined by you after you see them.

I'm interested in getting a set, but I am now wondering if this can be done when you have triple gauge a-pillar pods. I have an autometer triple gauge a-pillar pod that is going to be installed and want to make sure.

yeah i think i am giving it up on this, i think most people arent into audio enough to want to spend the kind of money for these...if you can see how much work its involved you would perhaps understand

i have had people get quotes up to 1k just to mold their A pillars to accept drivers

Does a company make single gauge pods for both starboard (American) and port (Japanese) sides of the car? Then it would just be a matter of matching the sizes of the tweeter to the gauge opening.

Paul strikes again... great idea !!

Here's a pic from a JL install a little flashy, but I like it... I'd pay $450 for something like this...
